Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

Good god yes. I can't believe the love that movie gets around here. Like it was something special.

I thought it was pretty good, I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a lot of fun the whole way through; it might have been the most fun movie I saw all year...maybe only Edge of Tomorrow was more fun. It doesn't really seem like an Oscar movie though.

As far Oscar nominees I've seen I'd put Nightcrawler worse than Selma, Grand Budapest Hotel, and Whiplash, about the same as Imitation Game (which is a very much more of an "Oscar Bait" movie), and better than Birdman and American Sniper. But it's hardly a surprise it didn't get nominated.

The man who knew too much is very good.

Saboteur, meh, some good, some not as good. Some clever dialog. Lead actors not that great. Some weird scenes. Some good scenes. 6/10

surprised that there haven't been any Blackhat reviews itt. I saw it tonight and really enjoyed it, if you're looking for great dialogue or character development you won't be satisfied but I've always loved how Mann shoots movies and this one was no different.

I thought Birdman was way better than nightcrawler. Not even in same class. Also I have zero interest in seeing American sniper. You'd have to pay me to watch it

when i saw that preview i swear you could've given me 100 guesses and i never would've said michael mann directed it.

i'm a huge fan of mann and i just couldn't reconcile how insanely stupid the movie looked with him directing it.

i think a lot of people took one look at that preview and just said lol no ty.

i'm sure i'll check it out when it comes out on blu ray just because i owe it to MM, but i'll be really surprised if i make it to the end.

i have no doubt it will look great tho.

dude shoots some of the best looking films ever.

i'd be very interested to hear your review of nightcrawler.

what didn't you like about it?

i've seen it 2x and already want to watch it again.

Didn't enjoy Inherent Vice. Disappointed because I love PTA films. Punch drunk Love is probably my favorite. This was the first one where it felt pointless and hard to follow. Half the movie was over before I had an idea what was happening. Which maybe was what PTA wanted, for the audience to feel as high and confused as the main character. Even in PDL, I felt like everything was bizarre and random, but there was at least some sort of throughline.

Doesn't help that I've never read Pynchon, but if this is representative, I wouldn't enjoy his stuff.

I didn't think it was bad and usually a good portrayal of Los Angeles even bumps my opinion up some. I just found it to be uninteresting. I also think it would have been better if main character wasn't mental case but just a normal dude trying to make a buck who gets caught up in it. I'll reflect on it some more and please pm me any interpretation you have. You inspired me to look up some more on it and I've read some decent insights.

Most Pynchon is stranger, inherent vice is probably his most accessible novel.

Strange timing I was just looking to order the interstellar soundtrack on vinyl. I heard it doesn't have a lot of the music from the film, at least that's according to the amazon reviews. How do you like it?

Watched this morning and the above is a perfect summation. Really good watch. I thought this was Reznor's best score by a lot, set the tone from the very start.

Told you to see Selma!

But I liked Inherent Vice more than you. I still have quite a few of the silliest scenes stuck in my head.

Nice. Planning to watch this tonight. Unfortunately haven't gotten to the Color of Money yet. Still plan on watching some classics that were recommended to me in this thread (Cool Hand Luke, etc) but I have to watch them alone because my girl isn't interested in them at all.

It's so cool to think about how much I enjoyed watching The Hustler by myself with subtitles. The subtitles bother most people but I use them while watching everything.

watched Inherent Vice last night and even though its probably not a masterpiece, I thought it was a alot of fun to watch. I had a smile on my face throughout the movie and the hazier things got the more i enjoyed it.

I did think it went on a bit long and some of the jokes were too forced for my liking but all in all it was a fun ride.

What % of American sniper do you guys think is accurate?

Unfortunately it's not available on vinyl right now... there is talk about a limited release later.

That set is the limited cd boxed set direct thru the studio with extra material. The regular release is just as nice also but lacks the famous "docking scene" composition... though you can download that online.

I am a bit of a soundtrack whore... I have a decent collection on both vinyl and digital discs.
