Django also deserves mention in the greatest Western category. It shamelessly ripped off old Westerns (and Blaxploitation films), and was new and unique and wonderful at the same time.

Disappointed with Snowpiercer, despite amazing reviews. Some great visuals and an excellent cast, but it's way too self-indulgent and full of itself. Reminded me very much of Terry Gilliam's movies, which I usually enjoy.

That kinda makes me angry, like saying a great SNL parody is better than the original great movie. Put Django off in a special weird category of its own. How could anyone compare Red River to Django, impossible.

I was going to agree until I realized you weren't talking about Django and instead the QT movie.

Django isn't a parody. It's one of the most important movies of the last twenty years. It shoved the brutality of slavery into the face of white America, who has tried its best to ignore the real impact of slavery for 150 years, overlaid with an empowering Spartacusesqe romance.

compelling argument.

Comparing Django to a parody is incredibly insulting to what Tarantino was trying to accomplish and did accomplish.
10-25-2014 , 12:27 AM
argh, we've both stated our opinions. I don't see any argument. You think Django is the GOAT western, very well! I find that absurd. Also I know you're a pure troll from other threads, gg.
10-25-2014 , 12:31 AM
I mean I've written a bit about why I think it is so great. You haven't written any substantial criticism of the film, just said "LOL JANGO"
10-25-2014 , 12:34 AM
I agree about The Outlaw Josey Wales being better than Unforgiven.
10-25-2014 , 12:37 AM
How am I being a troll?

its weird how anytime someone says "xyz is a great movie" it has to devolve into a "YA BUT ITS NOT THE BEST 'insert appropriate genre' MOVIE EVER".

there are so many amazing movies in all diff genres, just appreciate them all.

Yeah, exactly. I call Django a really good western and get called a troll. WTF?
10-25-2014 , 12:42 AM
django was a western.

django was really good.

HOW DARE YOU SIR! DON'T YOU KNOW THAT THE HUDGE RACIST JOHN FORD ALSO MADE MOVIES????
10-25-2014 , 12:47 AM
I won't claim GOAT or anything just my favorites. My top3 westerns would be:

3. The Good the Bad the Ugly
2. Blazing Saddles
1. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

I like the old 50's and 60's westerns in general but its hard to rank them for me.

John Wick is awesome. It combines the atmosphere/world building of something like Payback or Oldboy and combines it with the action of Hard Boiled. Finally a movie where you see the gun firing and it's destination in the same shot with no cutting, and this is the case for every single bullet in the movie. Add to that some acting heavyweights like Dafoe and Mcshane and you have a lot of entertainment. Alfie Allen pretty much plays Theon Greyjoy.

butch n sundance is absolutely phenomenal.
10-25-2014 , 12:50 AM
Yeah love Butch and Sundance but man does anyone not fast forward through "Raindrops Keep Fallin on Head" interlude? Have to drop it down a notch or two.
10-25-2014 , 12:50 AM
Butch and Sundance excellent.

Blazing Saddles too.
10-25-2014 , 12:50 AM
Also, regarding Butch and Sundance? Do you realize that JOHN FORD also made movies? HOW DARE YOU SIR
