I think it's safe for you to see this movie. Lady Gaga won't bother you. I wouldn't call her gorgeous, but she's attractive and appealing in a girl-next-door kind of way, especially if you're from Bensonhurst.

The original songs were fairly innocuous. I can't remember any of them and wasn't singing any of them as I left the theater, but there was nothing offensive about them. So I don't think you'll have any trouble with Gaga, the only trouble you'll have is if you expect to see great film-making.

I had a great time watching it.

Multiple songs are memorable and I can’t help but sing “Shallow.”

Those are terrific too, I sure wouldn't argue with anyone putting any of them as best ever.

Same for maybe Nina Simone and Streisand

Hmm, I thought the reason I might see it was because of the great film-making. Everyone here seems to be raving about it.

John's Dina should be out of John's life

Sitting in a bar in Newport, having finished dinner, and observing the couple seated next to me at the bar. Guy has spent the entire time on his phone, doing who knows what, barely speaking to the woman next to him. I'm not sure at whom I want to scream.

Unfortunately, I'm her mentor. However, she does like Hitchcock's films. So hope isn't lost completely.

I strongly disagree with Mack. I think it is great filmmaking. The climax has some of my favourite shots of the year.

Golf is awesome in every way! Except the frustration. And the price.

Even though I knew what was coming, the ending was a real tear-jerker. Had me blubbering in my popcorn.

Not any longer. But I did at one time. Besides, she called me a super douche. No one usually includes the "super."

Convinced that his newfound friend (Ryan Reynolds) is a good-luck charm, a gambling addict (Ben Mendelsohn) takes the man on a road trip to a high-stakes poker game in New Orleans.
Mendelsohn does a good job of being that guy that you pity him, want him out of your life, and feel for him and Reynolds does great as himself, a charming fast talker. I'd recommend it.

What was the first movie you saw together?

For me, with the three important women in my life, the first movies were Wings of Desire, Local Hero, and The French Lieutenant's Woman, not a bad trifecta.

I my two real loves first movie with me were:

Ponette
A revival of Mulholand Drive

You can always tell right away...

I know the first movie we ever watched together was Friday Night Lights, but I had to dig deep to come up with the first theatrical release we saw together - it was The Hunger Games.

I include the Dina Meter because I think she has pretty simple tastes and I’m a bit unsure if she will love A Star is Born because the second half is difficult. My feelings will definitely be hurt if she doesn’t like it. I watched Manchester by the Sea with her and my parents and all three of them checked out within 10 minutes and finally my wife says, “why are we still watching this?”

So....

My wife didn't get Wings of Desire, but the next day she told me she couldn't stop thinking about it. I knew she was a keeper.

I saw Manchester By The Sea with a woman I dated a couple times. She was weepy afterwards. Perhaps I was mistaken in not asking her out again.

How It Ends

Quote:
In the midst of an apocalypse, a man struggles to reach his pregnant wife, who is thousands of miles away.
A Netflix movie that is terrible. They must pay these actors a lot because it's got a lot of faces I recognize but every single part is not good and not good in a way that would be pretty obvious just reading the script. It's typical road trip after a freak event to find loved ones plot with society breaking down and strange things happening but Forrest Whitaker is the headliner and he has no chemistry with Theo James, his traveling partner. Apparently the world goes to sh*t very, very, quickly because these guys start their road trip and get pulled over by an escaped convict in a police car who tried to murder them the first day after the incident. By day 5 it's Mad Max with people setting ambushes, huge engulfing fires, etc.

Part of the absurdity of the whole movie taking place in a week is
the guy does find his wife but she's holed up with a friend who helped her escape and the big showdown is that her friend was in love with her wanted her to himself and expected the fiance to be dead which might make sense if they were gone for months like Shane from Walking Dead, but it's been 5 days!
Anyways there's one part where one of the freak occurrences is that the guy is in a house, looks up though the skylight and it's the aurora borealis and all I could think about was the Simpsons steamed hams bit.

I had to go back to 2010 to find a 10/10 and I found 3: The Social Network, Inception, and Toy Story 3.

I dunno. I feel like my scale is similar to a baseball scout’s, where 80 is like the max grade they ever give out.

I won’t ever give a 10 on first viewing and really I should only give them years later to films that were initially an 8 or 9 and still blow me away.

I’m not even sure how I feel about the 3 that I mentioned. I still find TSN and TS3 incredibly enjoyable but it has been a long time since I watched Inception.
