Wook - keep at it son. You'll get there! Started writing up?
Yeah. I got a ways to go, though.

You'll smash it out no problem. I found that when I was writing up, it was much better to do it at the weird hours when you feel most productive. For me, that was writing between 9pm and 3am. Did those hours maybe 4 nights a week, and the rest of the time for those 4 days I spent doing other stuff. I found I was a lot more productive that way, and my writing was a higher quality.

What's your supervisor like in terms of proofreading stuff? Mine was really good, but super pedantic. As in he'd scrutinise every word to make sure it was the right one to use.

Mine's good. I agree with almost all of his edits, although he does screw up comma usage every now and then.

Hey, Dr Klavs!

This must be the most educated forum on here imo. I'm sure we have some other PhDs around here too.... *cough*

And a solid, fine-tooth-comb proofreader/editor is a fine thing indeed. The last thing you want during the Sisyphan last few months of metaphorically wading through thick mud holding a cannonball in each hand whilst balancing a fish on your nose is to think it's easy, only to have to rewrite at the end.

My supervisor was also a complete grammar nit. His pet hate was the hyphen. Hyphenate the wrong word and he'll go off on a 5 minute rant about how people don't know when to use hyphens anymore.

Hi, Dr (?) db!
05-27-2011 , 01:56 AM
aye, Dr db is correct, though I only use the title to snob it up now and again. I got mine in '94 so it's entirely out of date probably (though I looked into my field recently, and was shocked how little progress had been made - I coulda been the world expert in computer reasoning and uncertainty by now!)

anyway let's not talk about me, tell me what the big lump of cranial pain you had to create was about?

I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours :-P

My PhD was on the role, and therapeutic potential, of a class of sugars produced by the body called glycosaminoglycans in Alzheimer's disease and related diseases. Found a few potential lead compounds for drugs, and got a couple of patents too.

You're right about cranial pain. Ugh!

Don't let Zeno read this remark. I'm pretty sure he believes SMP is the most educated. And as mod, he would likely defend that title to death.

If by real doctor you mean a doctor with a PhD, yes

sweet research imo.

I have a few patents for my work in leather shoes, but that's another story.

I have my phd too. The dissertation was grueling I tell ya'. Started research 4 years ago, and things were going roughly, but things took off just around my first birthday.
05-27-2011 , 03:06 PM

I don't read that slow. Though, most of it is videos, so that makes it easier.
