They called me back pretty fast. My Tag Aquaracer CAP2110 would list at $1,400 with a reserve price set lower than that.

Their fee is a MASSIVE 19.5%. So if it sold for $1,400 I would be getting back $1,028. I guess when you consider FedEx bills including insurance, inspection, etc. it's not out of the realm of being accurate'ish. If you had a more expensive watch I am guessing you can negotiate the % down a good bit.

I'm likely to flip it and upgrade from their inventory and they said they would cut a deal on anything in their inventory. I asked about % reduction and that's what they gave me.

I will post more updates if I decide to go ahead with it.

Edit: math math, not sure how they get 19.5% based on numbers quoted.

Nice! Please keep me updated. Like I said, I have and will continue to have no stake in that company but I'm interested to hear a true outsider's perspective.

As for the fee, I don't know how it's calculated, but do know it should be for all the shipping, an inspection and cleaning (they have full time watchmakers on staff) and professional photography.

Also, from what I gather their target market is a little different than the average person here. A little less sophisticated, and more of a watch-as-a-status-symbol buyer.

That said, even if the buying experience isn't that great, it may be a good spot to keep an eye out for watches you're hunting. They've built a crazy good network for acquiring watches.

Yeah the new Nomos Ultra thin Automatic is really nice.

CCuster, do you live in Austin?

If so, go by Jack Ryan Fine Jewelry if you have a chance.

I can relate to that. I am starting to have some appreciation for them though I never saw one I'd consider buying yet.. until that new oyster perpetual posted on the last page. Beautiful watch no matter the company.

I think this may have to be my first Rolex.
I've been able to appreciate their quality up until now, but this is the first one I've really liked the look of.

Would anyone be interested in a Hamilton Valiant? Hardly worn but my wrists are too thin and it just doesn't look good on me. Will post actual photos if I get any interest.

Used to, now live in Columbus oh . Haven't updated location. Will probably visit in the not so distant future so I'll try to swing in if I remember. Always like oogling at watches.

Yeah I loved the new '57 Speedmaster. Although I love the 2013 edition too, especially the blue-ish dial. Plus it's little bit better sized than the other Speedmasters with the 9300 cal at 41.5mm vs 44mm.

So for anyone who gives a **** in regards to my earlier post, I went to several dealers in my area and looked at the three watches. The Longines seems a bit chunky on my wrist (and I wasn't fond of the large arabic numbers), the Hamilton bezel looked like a weird diamondy thing was going on, and then there was the Tag.

I went to a chain jeweler about 30min from my place to checkout the Aqua Racer. I called in advance and they laid it aside for me. So I enter the store and wait around for about 15 minutes being passed of from person to person until one finds the watch (and insults her coworker who put it aside for me since she was on lunch). Anyway another gentleman comes over and shows me the watch. Retail was $2600 on the price tag but they were willing to part with it for $1955. In the meantime he's man handling this thing. No glove, no pad, just puts it in my hand. Doesn't explain the movement, the features, just silent. I ask him to give me the price again (as he needed to double check what the lady on the phone told me). All the while he's holding this thing like it's a pair of Nike's. No care for it whatsoever and even knocks it into the cashier sliding door thing. Then as he's checking the price (he tosses the new watch on the cash register wooden area) and tells me I can purchase a warranty for $349 more. I tell him no thanks, he states they'll size it for me here. After sizing I cannot return the watch. Then he tells me to swipe my card.

So...first off, I was still debating whether I even wanted to buy it. I mean it was a nice watch but I wasn't in love with it. Then there was his salemanship, or lack thereof. He showed no respect for the watch, no respect to me, and the entire situation seemed of. I told him I wasn't going to buy it and left the store.

Fast forward a few days...

In my heart of hearts I want a Rolex Submariner (no-date). They retail for $7,500 (plus tax). I took a drive to another dealer that has a dedicated Rolex room. I spent a good 20-30 minutes talking with the two salespersons about the watch. They brought it out of the case for me, wearing gloves, and placed it on the pad. Explained all the features, the history, and even took my info down to call me when they have trunk shows with used Submariners if I wanted to save some money.

Now...watch was amazing. Perfect fit, perfect weight, just an amazing piece of craftsmanship.

I know...a different league from the Tag or the other models I was looking at (not knocking those models whatsoever, they are all fine timepieces).

So I went home and talked to a few friends of mine, they said just get it. You're getting married, you save...yada. My fiancee says she'll kick in a few k (what she was going to pay for the Tag) and then you can do as you please, and by all means buy it...you work hard, you're responsible, you deserve it.

Even family members were telling me to think about buying it lol.

[If I buy this watch I'm looking to buy it brand new from an AD]

So EDF, should I just buy this thing??? Someone help convince me. Because I still can't wrap my head around why I want this thing so bad.

This would be my largest purchase ever (minus cars)...

Surf, if that's what you want, and you can afford it, get it. If you're still not sure, check out the Omega Seamaster.

looks great. with wifey throwing in some money i'd say go for it. you don't want to get something else and regret it and always be thinking about it.

will say definitely shop around and haggle with AD's as much as you can. the two times i've bought mine new from an AD (omega and breitling) i got a good chunk off of retail. quick search online says it's 7k on jomashop btw. can use that as a bit of a bargaining tool. (or say even lower).

Your heart is set on the sub, anything else won't be the same. It's an absolutely timeless watch which will look awesome for the rest of your life.

Be warned though, it is just the start. You'll see a lovely faded bezel GMT Master 16700 and want that, you'll want a white face explorer, you'll try on a SD and think the non bubble date is great and it's like the subs big brother and want that. Then obviously have a Daytona will be the real grail....

I could seriously have 10 brand new SS Rolexes and not want to get rid of any of them.

Minor point but the fact that she's "chipping in" is pretty meaningless since you're about to be married and working with the same bankroll anyway. What's important is the fact that she's cool with you buying it (mbn my wife would never be down for that haha).

Please see the chart a few posts above you. I'm not guaranteeing that it will appreciate (though it might), but I am fairly positive your admiration of the watch will continue to grow.

Buy the Sub.
