I will be happy when my BR hits the value of one of these.
I don't know what your budget is but that Oris classic date on leather strap is only about $700 new which in my mind is not a bad deal for what you get.

I thought these were all $2500+. I guess I only checked the Longines (which is something like that) and extrapolated that any quality watch will be around the same price.

My Dad is going to be in NYC and mentioned wanted a Baume & Mercier watch. Despite the fact that I lived here I have typically bought online from boutiques so have no idea where he should go. I see that B&M has a retail outlet but were wondering if there were any other recommendations of places he should look at watches in NYC. Doesn't have to be B&M but he is looking for something in the $1,500 to $2,000 range.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I'm left handed. I've always worn watches on my right wrist, can't help it.

I've sold off a couple watches and considering a higher-end purchase.

I am deciding between...

IWC Portugese 7-Day Reserve (Black)
Zenith Chronomaster XXT Open Grand Date
Glashutte Original PanoMaticLunar XL (stainless/grey dial)

Thoughts welcomed! I am leaning towards the Glashutte for its uniqueness.

The Panomatic Lunar is one of my dream watches so I have to put that one first. I thought the grey dial was only available for the XL version?

Then I'll place the Zenith at a very close 2nd and the IWC in 3rd though the Zenith might be a bit too busy if its going to be your main watch.

It is, fixed post ;-)

I'm 100% with you in my gut feeling right now. Probably would serve me well to go to an AD and actually see them in person and try them on. Something about the Glashutte is so friggin' cool though.

I guess I'm lucky not to have loved my PAM292, that plus another has gotten me within reaching distance to one of these. Woohoo.

Wouldn't be main, I have about a 6-8 watch rotation.. otherwise I totally agree.

For the same amount of money, I just can't choose something over this

Yeah, total sick display and detail.. the other subtle cool thing about this is the strap is gray croc with a somewhat weathered look to it so it can be dressy or casual. I think the hands are actually white gold.

Its just really fantastic movement decoration and placement. Everything from the German style 3/4 plate, the 21k gold microrotor, the hand engraving on the balance bridge, the compensated balance wheel, looks great.

Without the logos, parts of the movement can be easily mistakable for something from ALS.

Yeah, I really love this watch. The smaller 40mm panomatic lunar on bracelet is my grail since GO makes the best bracelets in the business IMO. I think the leather strap is more fitting of the grey dial 42mm XL though.

Unless I talk myself out of dropping 9k on a watch in the next 2 weeks, I will most likely be posting wrist shots shortly thereafter. :-)

The uniqueness, finish, movement, moon phase (always wanted this), etc etc I think I'm sold on it.

Definitely has similarities to ALS.. some sick pieces they have.

I'm with everyone else, GO Panomatic all the way. Gorgeous watch.

I guess I get to be the party pooper?

On pure looks, I think I like the zenith the best. Glashutte has never done it for me in this regard. Something about their design aesthetic just doesn't "resonate" with me for lack of a better word. It's partially all the dead space on the dial, but it's something else about it I can't really verbalize. Just not my cuppa IYKWIM.

From a technical gee-whiz perspective, though, I like the Glashutte. And that movement is ****ing gorgeous. You should just wear it upside down IYAM.

I kind of know what you mean on this.. it's dead space and an 'unbalanced' setting.. something doesn't initially 'feel right' if you're a spacial person. My first reaction to the non centered dial type watches was 'nah', but this has grown on me big time.

Oh and for wearing upside down, the Glashutte Inverse;

I dunno, I keep looking at the panomatic and I can't really find any one thing I don't like about it other than the serif typeface on the bigdate (I'm not a huge fan of big dates in general, but I can get over it). But still it just doesn't click for me. But I can totally see how some people would love it. It's got all the right elements and is executed well. The case is fantastic. The crown is perfect. The bracelet is a home run IMO. And the dial isn't that dissimilar from a piece that blows me away and that I consider a true grail (they are basically impossible to find, hand-assembled and a truly limited edition), the Seiko SBCG003.

Obviously these are vastly different timepieces but the point I'm getting at is that dead space on the dial isn't a deal breaker for me in the general sense.

trplthrt,
I'd pick the Glashutte any day in that line-up. Just gorgeous.
For some time, i thought that Zenith was pretty close, but in person it didn't really "click" for me.

Super LC warning, but if anyone was gonna find this remotely funny figured it'd be you guys:

Had an Inception themed dream in which I was at my local watch guy having him build a custom minute repeater with unique tones to eject me from dreams and some custom totem features, then I glanced down at his watch and realized it wasn't his usual one then noticed the entire layout of the shop was backwards and it was probably too late and I was stuck in a dream forever.

For giggles this is his real life watch, eek, at least the alarm might be able to wake him up.

thats a nice watch just pretty loud.

I really like this one for a modern diving alarm watch.
