Hey watch enthusiasts
Looking for some advice, want to buy 2 watches, been reading the thread a bit, found these two i like (so you get an idea about the type of watch i'd like), don't know much about CW so maybe you guys can advice.

So want one on gold like this one:
http://www.christopherward.co.uk/vie...-s/c5gwk.html#

and one on black like this:

http://www.christopherward.co.uk/view-auto-s/c5skk.html

Total budget for each should be around 700-800$. Also, I assume automatic is better than quartz or am i mistaken?

If you guys have better recommendations , please feel free to mention it. Thank you.

automatic isn't "better" than quartz per se, just more expensive for the watchmaker to make.

CW is a fine affordable way to get yourself a swiss mechanical watch.

Unless if you go for the alligator strap upgrade, that shouldn't cost that much right? I mean just look at the site you linked to. Also, CW has a US site that has prices in dollars. not sure where you are based.

I'm european .
Thanks for the advice.
Ideally i would only want one of the models from CW so looking for an alternative to any of those for diversity .
Also, i don't understand, do you suggest buying them with the alligator upgrade? For some reason on their site i couldn't see how they look with that upgrade on.
Thanks again.

I mean on the website its listed as 230 pounds. so I don't see how you get 700 to 800 dollars unless if you get the alligator strap upgrade on the website. You would only get alligator if you want the rarer alligator leather instead of cow leather. Looks wise I don't think alligator looks that much better.

Do you want something thats in that style (dressy )or is any swiss automatic under $800 going to do?

In that style, obviously the Tissot Le Locle mentioned earlier is a great option.

You can probably get a non chronograph Mido or Oris or Hamilton or Glycine new for under $800 too though I don't know prices in Europe.

Some of the lower end models from brands with a bit more history are actually an alternative in that price range. The cheapest Longines and Baume et Mercier models are <1k online, and while taking a quick glance around found this Oris you might like (link below, there's a similar gold tone model too):

http://www.jomashop.com/oris-classic...94-4064ls.html

Check out seagull too imo, made in China but awesome quality for the money- and if you end up wanting one, see if you can order from the US site (http://www.usseagull.com/) instead of the euro one (http://www.seagullwatch.eu) as prices are a lot better on some items (even taking exchange rate into account).

Also there are a lot of Seikos at seiyajapan.com that are in that price range that you may like.

+1 to amoeba's Tissot suggestion too.

How about a Seiko SARB066 for the gold one? About $600

I keep pimping Mido but its because I really think its a brand thats often underlooked and underrated.

The thing I like about Mido is that you can get a watch with a Top grade, possibly Chronometer grade movement and thus all the goodies (incabloc shock protection, glucydur balance wheel, blued screws) for under $1k. Since its owned by Swatch Group, technically the movement is in house.

In that semi dressy style, I like the baroncelli

The Oris that Tyresias mentioned is a good option.

For Hamilton, stylistically, the closest thing is the viewmatic

There's lots of options stylistically if you are willing to go with Seiko so I won't post them all but in that price range ( > $300), you want something with a 6R15 movement if you are getting a Seiko since the 6R15 is hacking and winding.

Hey EDF, I am looking for a watch in the $1k-3k range. I have always been partial to silver watches with roman numerals. I am not a fan of really busy faces that have multiple dials. I have tried looking around online at places like Longines, IWC, and Hamilton and have not found much luck. I don't know if it is much help, but the watch Jason Senti wore at the WSOP final table. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a picture that shows exactly what kind of watch he wears. In case you don't know them here is a pic of him:

Any help would be great.

When you say "silver watches" do you mean steel with a bracelet? Silver dial? Perhaps post some examples of things you've seen outside your price range that you liked, even if it was only certain aspects.

I would say a steel bracelet with a silver dial is the sort of thing I am looking for. The only watch I have been able to find that is similar to what I am looking for is this Longines:

http://www.longines.com/watches/the-.../L2.689.4.78.6.

Sweet bracelet and dial. However the numbers on the dial are not roman numerals. Also I have never tried on a watch with a 47.5" diameter though so I will have to look into that eventually.

First time posting on this thread and can use some advice.
I am looking for my first real watch and have around a $500 budget.
My everyday watch is a Stainless Steel Fossil Arkitekt and I tend to like that sort of look as opposed to leather. I want to wear it daily but I'm more concerned about it looking good with a suit then casual.
I have a pretty thick wrist and tend to like wider looking watches and I really dislike the look of diver type watches.
I'm posting what my current watch looks like. I guess I'm basically looking for a more "grown-up" version of something like this.
I appreciate the fact that people on this post has much more style then I do.

Breitling marketing vid has some good footage of servicing. Not very technical, unfortunately, but fun to watch:
