Cheers amoeba, you're probably right in that she won't know the difference unless I explain it to her, but I'LL know!

I mean a lot of women prefer quartz you know? and the eco drive is a good option considering you probably won't have to worry about battery change for like 10 years.

the thing is at under 400, you're not going to get a swiss mechanical diver new and there aren't that many small real divers (IMO 300 meters +) so nothing on the used market. So you are left with Japanese or Russian. Most of the Japanese divers are 41mm +.

There are some dive model Seiko 5s that are small but I don't think the depth rating is enough, maybe only 100m.

I guess you could try getting her a round Vostok Amphibia. Its rugged, 200m, mechanical, 39mm, and under $100. Finish is not good though and accuracy will be in the 20 to 30 sec per day range. If she is a Wes Anderson fan though, you can get her the one that Bill Murray wears as Steve Zissou in the movie.

Damn you're good, food for thought thanks, like that Vostok! I'm now veering towards an '80s SEIKO 4205 at a manageable 38mm

Yeah thats not bad looking but I would be wary of getting a vintage mechanical dive watch if you are actually going to use it for diving just because you have to make sure the movement is ok as well as the gasket/seal. The servicing might also cost more than the watch in the range you are looking at.

by the way a watch's depth rating doesn't mean it will have absolutely no problem at that depth. It actually means that it was tested completely motionless, faceup, and that was the depth that it failed at.

If your sister is doing any serious diving, I would seriously shoot for 200m minimum.

jesus you save lives too? Thanks again, will look at some quartz tomorrow. Or just plunge on the monster and let her look ridiculous out of a wetsuit

one last suggestion, you might want to look at Bernhardt's line

http://www.bernhardtwatch.com/corsair.html

they are all 40mm+ with the Binnacle Anchor the smallest at 40mm but you get a lot of watch for the money imo.

essentially 200m automatic divers with the ones that contain Japanese movements at $200 and the ones with swiss movements at $350.

38mm auto for $190

I thought there used to be a lot more 38ish sub looking Seikos but most I've seen after a search are 41ish and a little chunkier.

Thought this was kinda neat:

Domino wall clock.

Winna Winna Chicken Dinna!

Okay now if I don't want to drop $15k on a watch where can I find something similar to this or the Jacob 5-time zone watches. Basically I want something with a big face that looks baller <$1000

Well assuming you don't care about the mechanics at all and just want something big and blingy, http://www.jomashop.com/bulova-casual-98e109.html

It's a quartz movement and has mineral crystal and is big and imo way over-the-top with all things considered... but if you liked that Jacob & Co. and want a cheap similar model, this and other Bulova models are worth looking at.

Diamonds are shiny, yo.

I've seen a ton of replica Jacob watches most of which are going for ~$200. Is there any way of telling if these are going to look legitimate at all? or are they going to look like something I won at the arcade... Also any more suggestions on the big faced watches front would be amazing. I'm looking all over the place but haven't found anything I like enough to buy.

Fake watches are only worn by fake people. Get a cheaper brand.
