Ah, interesting. Is it bidirectional then?

yes, since there's a physical lock a bidirectional bezel is kosher under the ISO certification.

I actually find rubber straps to be maybe the most comfortable overall. Actually really enjoy wearing rubber (on my watch)

I actually was never a fan of Breitling.. thought many of their styles were way too busy for me and/or 'blingy' but I have recently really taken a liking and have been deliberating between Seawolf or Steelfish. I'm trying to sell some of my watches as I've decided to go ahead with the Steelfish (most likely w/ black dial).

If a bracelet is done right it's hard to beat. But so many bracelets, even on "nice" watches, are crappy.

Personally, I think the orange monster has one of the nicest bracelets out there.

On those pieces where the bracelet is sub-par, I like thick silicone rubber straps.

Silicone is a dust attractor, unfortunately, but it's very comfy and it doesn't have that vanilla smell that natural NBR rubber straps have.

One problem with rubber straps, though, is that they can sometimes fail in weird ways. For example, if you're unloading (eg) scuba gear from your back and a strap snags on your watch, your rubber strap might get compressed and (via friction) dislodge the springbar. This can be solved with either steel tubes in the strap around the spring bar or screwed lug bars, but both of those are rather uncommon.

PVN - thoughts on Breitlings in general?

I don't resonate with Bs. If I had to wear one, it would probably be a steelfish.

Can you get a considerable discount after the standard 20-25% from an AD during the holidays?? Say 30%+ off? I really want to purchase an IWC Port but I'm debating whether to wait until the holidays roll around for another 10% off or whatever or just purchase it now. FWIW I just got 2 watches (Omega Seamaster + Oris Chronograph) so its not like its something I must have right now but I like entertaining the idea of having it soon.

The highest discount I've pretty much heard of is like 30% and that is very rare in itself unless you have a great relationship with them. I wouldn't hope for more than 30%.

Ah, I wasn't hoping to hear that. I guess it make sense. They will just "pretend" they are having a holiday sale and mark everything 15-20% off during the holidays. What a scame! lol I'll say give me 30% off and I'll pay cash when I go buy my IWC.

If you're timing a purchase near Christmas just wait till January instead. It is by far and away the slowest month in the jewelery business.

So if retailers are able to offer 30-40% off the retail and still show a profit, what kind of markup is there on the average mid-high priced piece?

You don't get 30-40% off. WTF are you guys thinking. the ONLY way you get even close to 30% is if you have a very close and personal relationship with your AD or have bought multiple watches from them. Even then a sick discount is between 20-30%.

I got 20% off at Tourneau in Vegas with the absolute minimum amount of haggling (literally only the words "is it possible to get 20% off the asking price?") and it being very apparent that i probably wouldn't be a repeat customer or possibly even visit the store ever again. I would believe that 30 is quite easy with decent negotiating skills, and higher with amazing negotiating and a good relationship.

It also greatly depends on the brand of watch you are looking at.

Going to tourneau vegas tomorrow/day after, but what was the price off your watch for getting 20% off?

Obligatory Lume shots.

Looks like I was thinking of the new Colt GMT when I said new Steelfish, whoops. Also a reasonably sized more simple B though.

Random red hand picture I love of the Superocean heritage 125th

I think that one is something like 55mm? The 1000-series frogs are not much smaller at 52mm.

Yerrrp 55. Actually doesn't even look that big on that wrist shot to me at least, compared to similar sized steel pieces.

What's the size on your froggy? Is that a 1000? I always assumed you had one but I know nothing about the difference in series of them etc.

Kinda neat short article on the Otis, Hamiltons answer to the Reverso that caused JLC to sue:

I've had various 200-series frogs off and on but currently I don't have any, which has recently made me sad. I was thinking about getting a Dawn Black or Master Blue but this 1000 came up and I had to snag it. Officially the new 1000s are the same size as the old 200s but everyone says they're considerably bulkier, and they're certainly a lot heavier as the old ones were all titanium-cased and the new ones are steel.
