I did from 2010 to December 2014

Now I am in house

Is in-house far superior to a big firm? I assume so, but it might be a case of the grass always being greener.

Yeah def far superior. I work 930-530 and literally never check blackberry on nights or weekends. My salary is a year behind what I would otherwise be at the firm and it will probably be around the same for a long time but I could never go back

Isn't top 5% at a T2 in the biggest legal market good enough to get a big law job? If you want to clerk or become a prof, then you pretty much have to transfer, otherwise you really don't gain much as far as I can tell. I guess not having to do law review **** might be worth $100k.

EDIT: Just tell us the school

Being the right kind of minority seemed to be worth about 20 LSAT points when I was applying.

Saying "the biggest legal market" is some broad strokes here. The only thing bigger than the NYC legal market is the number of students elite schools are capable of pumping into it.

Chance of an NYC biglaw job from a T2 is super slim. Most firms just aren't going to bother doing interviews with those schools, as it's not worth the hassle of extra travel/expense etc. when the pool of T14 applicants is so big. My firm has maybe 2-3 non-T20 schools it recruits from, and that's because a couple of influential partners went there in each case. We take from maybe the top few % from those schools, but someone on the 5% line won't be very competitive.

The school here is really important. AGame saying NY/NJ area (rather than just NYC) has me thinking it'll be harder for him. Fordham does pretty well in biglaw for their ranking. Can't think of a school in Jersey that could say the same.

Officially sold my soul to Fordham, although it may just be an arm and half a leg after merit scholarships.

Any suggestions for light prep I can be doing this summer? My job just wrapped up, and I can only play so many holes of golf per day for the next few weeks before apartment hunting. Settled on 1 bedrooms in the UWS with the girlfriend. I picked up "1L of a Ride" and "Getting to Maybe", and will read through some guides on TLS, but it seems the consensus is too chill out and savor the calm before the storm.

1L might be the most overblown experience in the history of the world.

This is the correct and only answer. Enjoy your summer.

Would you put a CALI on your resume? I got two this last semester, but I'm not sure how to display it without coming off pretentious. One was in a bull**** class, but the other was in a field I might end up practicing in. Maybe include the good one and not the other? Thoughts? I just don't want to turn off possible employers if they think my resume makes me look like a blowhard is all.

Not doing big law fwiw either, looking to get into criminal.

I got one of those during 1L (in torts), highlighted it on my resume, and interviewers would bring it up during the interview as a positive. I just put it as a sub-point under my GPA. Seemed like it helped if anything. Just one anecdotal example.

Why wouldn't you? It's an academic award.

I was recently promoted to executive director in a small 3 attorney firm (my father is founder). Whenever we are looking to hire associates I am in charge of pre-screening resumes. IMO, I do not think putting academic awards or accomplishments is pretentious.

I personally like seeing them. Even if it's moot court award or something like that.

Awesome, thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure is all before I spam out like 200 resumes looking for a job lol.

Fwiw, my other one was in Pro Rep. Worst structured exam I've ever taken + half the class were 3L's who just dgaf. I skipped like half of the classes bc our prof only taught ethics in class, not the MPR....then proceeded to test on the rules. But yeah, i'll definitely include the other one.

It doesn't matter if the class was bull**** or not. They don't know that. Definitely list the award. Basically the only point of your resume is to show potential employers that you're very smart. CALI awards show that you're smart, so leaving one off is a terrible, terrible mistake.
