I don't really think the SAT and the LSAT are comparably personally, but fair enough. I'm not sure how to evaluate necessary in this case, but I believe that there are very, very few people (I was not one of them) who are capable of maximizing their score within a specific time frame by themselves. My opinion is that the number is definitely lower than 5%.

Good thing about this though, is that basically everyone didn't have enough time, not just you. Don't sweat it too much.

I have one more exam on Friday, which is 12 hours (ugh!), and then law school is done for me. My motivation to study is so miniscule right now.

Quick question:

Did anyone here who took the bar exam also work? I'm in a position where I can't afford to take the summer off from getting paid and taking loans/borrowing is simply not possible. Everyone at school that I've talked to about it thinks I'm crazy. They also all are really afraid of the bar exam (even though my school passes 85% for the exam). I should add: I'm clerking for two years after graduation and that doesn't require bar passage, but obviously I want to pass on the first attempt.

Last summer I worked for a small firm and developed a great relationship with the people there. They told me that they would put work aside for me over the summer and allow me to work remotely while studying for the bar exam. I'm going to be putting in between 25-40 hours a week at work in addition to studying for bar. Any tips from people who have done anything like this?

I worked 25 hours a week while studying for the bar (until the last two weeks, when I went into full-time study with basically every waking hour I had).

I condensed my schedule down into working the 25 hours in three days a week, allowing me to go fairly light on study on my three work days and then to hit it hard on my four off days. Bar study is such a drag that it's hard to get up for doing it after working law all day, so I think fewer days was a better idea at least for me.

For my first bar (DE) I worked full-time up until 4th of July, then took off until the exam. I think if I had been studying for the bar all day in late May and June I would have burned out, so that was probably the best situation for me. The key is really making sure you get a little done every day.

Thanks for the responses. I know its not going to be pleasant, but thanks for confirming it is doable.

Sorry if this has been asked itt before,

but what's a "splitter"? Is it someone who has a bottom 25 GPA/ 75% LSAT ? I'm pretty sure I'm misunderstanding this somewhere

Splitter can be either high GPA/low LSAT or high LSAT/low GPA.

Just means a wide split in between the two numbers like you were suspecting.

I did this by 2. That is so optimal. I didn't study one second.

+1..

might check out some transfer things next week.. not sure how worth it is.. my school is like 86. only worth my time if i can hop into the top tier i'm assuming..

i'll probably have around a 3.3-3.5 or so gpa and be in the top 15-20 at this school. had a 164 lsat if that still matters? only applied here on 7/31/2012 as im motivationally challenged..

anyone have any experience with or knowledge of transferring law schools?

karaks a pro he went from a similar school to t14, but in my uneducated opinion its probably better to say at your school and keep that sick rank than to xfer and lose it. might differ if you are on dat der pub service track and are comparing LRAPs in which case its an easy xfer.

Done with law school. Feel great! Was an anticlimatic end though. 12 hour exam from 10 to 10 which I finished at 9:30. Had a beer and passed out, lolz.

Congratulations - take some time to enjoy the pats on the back - bar prep will still be there when you are done celebrating.

bar prep is really hard to do with nice weather during the day and hockey at night.

I'm looking for ways to boost my GPA for law school applications. I was thinking about taking online classes that I'll be able to definitely get As in. Is this something that would benefit me, and if so, where would be a good place to take such classes?

I'm not sure random online classes would count towards your LSAC uGPA?

If they're on a transcript you'd have to send in they would, wouldn't they?

Congrats!

What exactly takes 12 hours to exam on? Is it purely writing or a mixture or what?

If you don't mind me asking

yes they can count, i know a few people that did this.

the thing is, it is in my opinion a pretty pointless endeavor. just add in a few A credits to the 120 it takes to graduate and see how marginal the bumps are. the only way i would do it is if you have a GPA that is around the "floor" for whatever schools you are targeting. so 3.49 doesnt have much difference from 3.51 for the majority of schools, but i believe Duke has (or at least had a year or 2 ago) a 3.5 gpa floor that they stick to pretty rigidly.

unless you are one of these fringe cases i would just focus on your regular classes and dont sweat the small stuff.
