I swear I read a significantly more detailed account a one point -- but this was years ago. It was much, much longer and got really deep into the numerology behind his hidden message. Maybe someone else can back me up and/or post a link?

I would have pointed out that Barry Nelson's hairstyle is an obvious reference to JFK.

Blasphemy! One of my favorite characters ever! Also I've read that Kubrick was tired of being told he makes acclaimed movies that aren't accessible to the masses and/or profitable. So he took a King novel and grabbed Jack and made a movie that was financially successful and common people talk about 30 years later! So if true, nabbing Jack for the role was by design.

I think I read that he begrudgingly used some artificial highlighting in Barry Lyndon. But for the most part, the ambient light was natural. Many scenes were also filmed with only candlelight and a NASA camera lens, which made scenes look like 2D paintings from the time period. The movie is slow and Ryan O'Neil is kind of meh but that movie has some of the prettiest cinematography I've ever seen.
