RIP Davis Crosby

He was an intregal part of the music I grew up with. His voice and harmonys were his greatest strength

RIP. He lasted much longer than I thought he would given the drugs and his rambling lifestyle.

The same applies to me. And Ray Zee. And Phat Mac.

He only lived this long because he took a donated liver away from a more deserving candidate. I don't think he would have qualified if not a celebrity.

He definitely participated in the making of lots of great music, and he wrote a few very good songs, but I consider him the least talented of the writing members of both the Byrds and CSNY.

This song was played at just about every party in the early 70s.

Huh. I thought Crosby had died some years back. Maybe I'm thinking of what chillrob mentioned.

Strangely enough, their version of Woodstock has been running through my head the last few days.

If I were to name the musician from that era most likely to be driving around in a pickup with a pump shotgun in an easy-rider gun rack and the back filled with empty Budweiser cans, it would be David Crosby.

rip, Bro'

Not sure about what he was driving at the time but they recorded Deja Vu while he was still dealing with the recent death of his girlfriend Christine Hinton, who had borrowed his VW bus to take their cats to the vet in Marin County. She was apparently distracted by a cat while driving and ran head-on into a school bus.

I was never that into Jeff Beck (or David Crosby). But the world just lost one of my personal guitar heroes, Tom Verlaine (nee Thomas Miller), best known for playing one of the twin guitars of the band Television (along with Richard Lloyd), which came out of the CBGB's scene of the late 1970s. They were called a punk band by many, but the only real punk was out of the band by the time they recorded their first album, and their music never really fit the punk moniker. Really it had it had very little in common with even the other early new wave / post punk bands, their only clear influences I can notice being Lou Reed / Velvet Underground, possibly mixed with multi-guitar southern rock bands like the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Punk listeners surely would have lost their patience with a 14 minute song of which half is guitar soloing, but it's heaven to me. I saw them once, on a reunion tour around 20 years ago and it was probably the best show I've ever seen, of 2000 or so. Give them a listen if anything here sounds interesting.

RIP Bobby Hull "The Golden Jet"

Definitely one of my childhood heroes. I will never forget going to an autograph signing at some local business (a light fixture store?) with him and Stan Mikita. I got to shake both of their hands and I was in awe of the popeye forearms both of them had.
