Always had a soft spot for Eddie Money. He was way more successful than someone with that voice and look should've been....but he was a grinder. RIP

He was so Money and he didn't even know it!

Some of his singles were pretty awesome for pop music imo. I think Dom is selling him a little short there, his voice was very expressive. And he was great on King of Queens too!

Eddie's voice wasn't on the Money
Unless it's Cantor, Fisher or (word for Bunny).

Oh, I liked his voice! I just mean that it's pretty amazing that he sold almost 30 million albums.

OOF RIC OCASEK (News is reporting 75, but his Wiki says 70)

Ric Ocasek -- the frontman and lead singer of the rock band The Cars -- has died.

Police say Ocasek was discovered unresponsive Sunday at his townhouse in NYC, and was pronounced dead at the scene -- according to an NYPD spokesperson. It's unclear for now how he might've died. He was reportedly found in his bed by his estranged wife, Paulina Porizkova.

That is ****ing depressing and so damn sad. He was 70.

I was lucky enough to see The Cars in '79 at the Maple Leaf Gardens.

RIP Ric

I feel like that even as popular as they were, The Cars were an underrated band. Their musicianship was off the charts.

Wrecked. The Cars are my all-time, favorite band. I remember jamming to their first three albums in my bedroom with my high school friends, playing air guitar, jumping around like maniacs, blasting the most perfect ear candy that rock and roll has ever given us.

Back in the late 80s when Ric Ocasek was married to one of the world's most famous supermodels, I got to have lunch with his wife Paulina for a work thing - my first job out of college! At the height of her fame, just me and her - it was insane. And she was completely tickled because all I wanted to talk to her about was Ric and The Cars.

I've seen them perform live nine times. Going to see their reunion tour five years ago with my best friend Bill - who is also no longer with us - is one of the highlights of my life. And seeing them - finally! -get inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame seemed like a great wrong had been righted.

Few things in life gives me more pleasure than driving down the highway with the Cars cranked high. Just What I Needed, Since You're Gone, Nightspots, Cruiser, A Dream Away, You're All I've Got Tonight....and on and on and on. Whenever I have a long road trip, I love it - because I get to listen to the whole catalog, straight through.

Thanks, Ric. You were one-of-a-kind. RIP

He was also the producer of iconic Bad Brains and Weezer albums, along with Romeo Void's "Never say Never."

His solo output was also great and eclectic:

Yesterday was the 35th anniversary of the first MTV Music Video Awards. The first Video of the Year went to the Cars for "You Might Think."

Not many people realize, but he was already 34 when the Cars' first album was released...and in his 40s when Heart Beat City had all those hits.

I always get reminded how deprived I was of good music growing up in the boondocks when I hear some musician died so I Spotify some of their music and it blows my mind.

Nothing makes me feel like missed opportunities than imagining hearing the new found songs in my teens instead of much later.

This. There's too much cool stuff out there to get it all in your youth no matter where you were.

One of my goals in life has been to make my guitar playing capture the essence of his Basin Street Blues on the Seven Steps to Heaven recording.

My missed artist, who I luckily discovered in my thirties, was Joe Pass. Looking back, how I could play guitar and miss Joe Pass is inexplicable.

I think this happens to everyone.

I had a lot of respect for Cokie Roberts. She was intelligent and reliable in an age where the D.C. press had come to see themselves as superstars.

I always viewed Cokie Roberts as the embodiment of political conventional wisdom (moderate-lefto version) but in a good way. She was always excellent on David Brinkley's Sunday show roundtable and good on NPR too. Always handled herself very well.

Intelligent and somewhat honest women are very rare. Cokie broke the mold. RIP you David Bowie looking lady.
