i don't follow fox news, it was a google link...and he's the House Majority Leader - I don't care if Obama was going around with a duck on top of his head, Reid never should've mentioned it.

lol Cards/Packers game...

sorry Fish!

Randoms such as myself can point stuff like this out. Politicians should have the judgment to leave that **** alone. If you want to be able to speak your mind, pick another job.

Reid has gotten so unpopular it's probably easier for the Dems to hold that Senate seat if he retires than if he runs for reelection (as with Dodd in CT).

What a crazy game! No defense, and then the final play...

Well, at least it was an exciting game. If only they hadn't spotted them 14 points right at the beginning of the game. The Pack seems to always want to do that.

Awesome game. Also,

CHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK KKKKKKK.

Just got back from seeing Avatar. Color me impressed. I'll admit, I was an early detractor. All the CG made it look fake to me. In the previews I saw, there looked to be so much fantastical and unbelievable imagery that it looked hard to get involved in. The 3D sounded like a gimmick for kids' movies. Worst of all, I didn't see a single real person. All the people looked like more CG. Thankfully, there were real people, but I had to get it confirmed to me that there were real people in it and not just voice actors. Even more thankfully, I saw it in 3D. I probably would have thought the movie was kinda hokie and much ado about some CG masturbation, but it was really fun to watch in 3D.
01-11-2010 , 03:34 AM
How did the 3d make it not hokie CG masturbation? I didn't know 3d could do that.
01-11-2010 , 03:37 AM
It's only mere hokie CG masturbation when it's not fun to watch. I use the term masturbation to connote something that's only pleasurable for the person doing it (Cameron). If it's fun for everyone, it's worth something. I really enjoyed watching this in 3D, and there's a good chance I would have been lukewarm about it had I seen it in 2D first. Maybe that makes me a sucker, but I don't feel jobbed by spending the premium over an already expensive movie ticket, so that's what matters to me.

Ebert, who is really down on 3d, said that Cameron handled it very well. The 3d kinda turns me off TBH, but it sounds like it worked in this instance. FWIW, I have strabismus and would watch the 2d every time.

But I remembered just in time to spend an hour writing down total crap ideas before bed.

Avatar is the second 3D movie I've seen that does it well and not just as a gimmick (the first was Up). Instead of continuous shots of axes and things flying at the screen, it is much more subtle. There is a greater feel of depth in all the shots. Up transitioned to 2D very well, but I'm not sure the same will be said for Avatar since so much emphasis was placed on 3D in the first place.

Ebert said the color was noticeably duller in Up, which is supposedly a common thing in modern 3D.

I think I may have seen somebody kick the bucket this morning. Less than 100 feet in front of me, a silver coupe sudden turned from the middle lane of the freeway perpendicular to the traffic and shot off at top speed to the right, smashing into the retaining wall. It crumpled up the whole front of the car. As I drove by (I had barely even had time to push the brake a little bit) I saw another car crumpled sideways into the retaining wall maybe 15 feet from the first car. I hadn't even seen what happened to that car.

I'm amazed no other cars got into it, because each lane was full and we were all going at 65 or more. I called 911 immediately. I feel pretty lucky I wasn't just a little bit closer.

blarg,
I remember seeing something like that when I was a teen. Car just flew off the highway (i275) near where we were playing tennis. The coach goes running over, and comes back about 5 minutes later shaking his head. The guy was fine. And drunk off his ass. Moral of the story . . .

-------
On the 3D, do they use the glasses? So one eye sees one thing, and the other sees something else, creating the 3D picture?
01-11-2010 , 01:56 PM
in the 3d avatar, i didn't notice that...and yeah, they do use glasses. as stated before, the 3d in avatar is pretty subtle and not like conventional 3d as seen before (in that you have **** flying towards you)...but it does add an extra dimension and makes it alot cooler, especially for that movie. if you are going to check avatar out, i really urge you to see it in 3d...

I only see with one eye, so I'm guessing the effect will be lost on me.

I was thinking a bit about this movie, and I haven't seen it yet. Cameron always seems to deal with a anti-hero going benedict at some point to finally save the day and then die at the end. From the preview, it doesn't seem like he deviates to far away from this, and I also wonder why the Earhtlings don't just shoot the live him when they realize he is switching sides, and then why is he doing to take his avatar to fight the Earth when his physical body is on the ship, so if he wins, he has to kill himself. Is this resolved in a non-hokie way?

He did say it in private. Surely many things were said in public toward the end of last year that was shoddy, but that is not something the authors really had to put in the book. Just like they were attempting to call Schwarzegnator all sorts of stuff because he said blah blah blah in his office about this or that. General bantering for the course.

To note that CNN is all over his ass for this one as well.

Anyway.... Is this a good time to mention that the Federal Court in San Francisco is hearing the case about whether or not the anti-gay marriage laws are constitutional?

they try to do this...and you can see how the end is resolved with one scene...with that said, i still really enjoyed this film despite the simplistic plot.

Whether or not something is constitutional is pretty much another way of asking if the Judge likes the law.
