Dom,

Your "Dominics' superior" would mean that Hobby is superior to all Dominics (of course, there's no way to ascertain this). Hobby will simply have to state "I am Dominic's superior," and this will remove all doubt. (Again, though, a bit hard to ascertain.) The original could be interpreted either way, and I know which way you have interpreted it.

Jesus, no. Come on, you're a writer, you should know better.

Dominic's superior = Dominic is superior OR the superior of Dominic

HH can personally pm everyone to explain her undertitle.

DB,

Dominics is more than one Dominic.

There was one that was pretty funny. It said something like

"Thank you for everything you've done...for always being there for me, for keeping it "real"."

I kid you not, it actually had the quote marks around 'real'. I laughed so hard. Can you imagine telling your mom something like that?
I can't even imagine sending my mother a valentine's day card in the first place.

Basically being appaled with the behavior of students who were right out of HS and Mommy and Daddy were paying their bills, still. They didn't give a **** about anything except about themselves and partying. Meanwhile I am busting my ass to do well because it is costing me a boatload of money, I am working full time and supporting a family. No WAY I was screwing around.
This is why I strongly disagree with the people on these forums, mostly young people of course, who say the older people in their classes are all stupid and can't seem to keep up. I've been to night school before, and the "adults" were uniformly more serious about their classes than the kids, and harder working. From what I saw, they were easily competitive with the younger kids and usually did much better than all but a few of them. And I'm talking about even the average adults, not the exceptional ones.

This is a huge reason why I am not in favor of parents paying a child's way after they get out of HS and become an adult.
Can't agree here. It's a ridiculously competitive world, and your child needs to compete on as close as you can get to even footing if you want him or her to have a chance. Of course, if your kid is a dunce, it's a different story. But a blanket "Beat it kid" is bad for the kids and will secure you a very richly deserved spot in a crummy nursing home when you're old and the tables are turned so that you're the one who needs some help.

Dominic's superior is correct as either contraction or possessive.

Whether it's true or not would depend on context of course.

The best of Lounge thread --

1) the link to make suggestions for additions now links ot the archives so is useless
2) as noted before, it's time for the books thread to go in there; it's huge and active
3) because it has potential to be useful basically forever, I further nominate the lounge food blog thread

Serious question: What's the best way to lose 10 pounds without leaving my room or changing my diet?

I am not really saying that I would be kicking my kids to the curb. I am saying that funding their education is their own responsibility. We will, I am sure, still be helping out and there will be plenty of support. But when it comes time to pay they need to step up, be the adult they so desperately want to be and foot the bill. We won't agree on this and that is fine. But, in my experience, I really believe that a lot of the dumbing down of our youth is due to parents doing too much for kids, monetarily. I saw the transition years ago when for some reason parents seemed to think it was OK to buy anything and everything their kids wanted and not make them responsible for anything including their higher education. Not only this but honestly, I can't afford to pay for my kids higher education. I am still trying to pay off my own student loans and will be until I am dead.

Also, I would bet a very large amount of money that if I would need help when I am older that my kids would do it. There is much much more about our relationships, that are good, that would ensure their help at an older age. That is even assuming I would want their "help" at an older age. I'll be honest, I would personally feel horrible if I was in such need that I became a burden on my kids lives. If it ever got to the point of, at worst case scenario, I couldn't survive in a decent assisted living facility than I would do everything possible to expire. It is an absolute nightmare to me to even think about being a burden on my children. My goal for them is for them to have their own good lives and not that they be caring for their dear old dad. Plus, I want to be able to take care of myself damnit. I am kind of crotchety that way.

I do understand what you are saying but I would hope that my kids loving me and wanting to do what they could for me wouldn't depend on how much money and/or things I gave them when they were young. I hope our relationship would be defined by a whole lot more than that.

Pfapping 10 times a day or more. Might get at least ten pounds of water weight off that right arm. Of course you would look funny with that highly developed muscular right arm and weak flabby left one. Assuming you are right handed
02-15-2009 , 11:13 AM
wait, people use only one hand?

chop off an arm at the elbow?
02-15-2009 , 04:11 PM
LF, why wouldn't you change your diet? Try pushups, situps, and karate kicks. Also, dance a whole lot, even after you are tired, keep dancing or running in place.
