In 20 years time, if there's 4 whores standing on a corner, how many are called Princess Shanichaway III (Emperess)
Unique is not the same as weird. I'm pretty happy with my name, and it's pretty rare. It's easy to come up with something unique, but something unique that doesn't suck is more difficult, hence the thread.

Also, your point about them finishing lower down the food chain is dead wrong. It's statistically irrelevant according to everything I've seen that isn't conjecture.

Didn't know Duke was rare.

Not sure about the food chain thing, but think about your kid years down the road and if the name will be a good one. My father vetoed the then wife and my first choice for the first child's name and am glad he did.

Why beat around the bush?

Magnus
Sigmund

(I'd vote for Vladimir too, but the ubiquitous stress on the last syllable among non-Russians tilts the everloving crap out of me).

Number of syllables of the last name would be helpful. The rhythm of saying first middle and last names together are worth considering.

Doh!

Davin Varick Nickolas.

After coming up with this name I looked up the meanings, together they mean "beloved leader who defends people of victory."

My suggestion is giving the kid a goddamn normal name that doesn't sound like his parents are absolute morons. Made up names from derivative fantasy fiction are the worst. You doom the child to a narrow, Dungeons and Dragon-y field of connotation whenever his name is mentioned for the rest of his life. Ideally, a name should be sufficiently discreet and inconspicuous to let its bearer imbue it with whatever personality and lifestyle he ends up possessing.

The other thing is you don't want other adults mentally slapping their foreheads when your grown-up child introduces himself at work or wherever as "Medallion" or "Hammersmith" or "Griffinclaw."

Also, avoid douchebag names like:

Tag
Trig
Trey
Anything ending in -ayden (with a few exceptions, like if it's a family name)

Good luck.

Except it is impossible to predict what names the next generation will think are "douchey". Dick used to be a popular name. BJ too. Now both have sexual connotations.
