Ever seen "Fight for your Life", 1970's exploitation flick? Ever seen "Fight for your Life", 1970's exploitation flick?

I've got Season One of Deadwood at the top of my queue, and have been enjoying it more than ever.

The other day, I went to www.imdb.com and Wiki, to read about the actors in that show.

William Sanderson plays Farnum on Deadwood. A line from Sanderson's Wiki page caught my eye:

He starred in the controversial film Fight for Your Life, which has a strict ban in the United Kingdom.

Eh?

I was one click away from that film's Wiki page, so click I did.

For some reason, I was instantly fascinated. Sure enough, NetFlix has it (they never, ever let me down), and I put it to the top of my queue.

I was not disappointed. It was everything the NetFlix viewer reviews promised it would be.

Cliff Notes Review: Three convicts--a white, a Mexican, and an Asian--bust out of prison, and hide out in the home of a black minister and his family (sounds like the start of a horrible joke, doesn't it?). The cons terrorize the family; women are raped, children are killed, and the ugliest, most vicious racial slurs are flying nonstop. In Act III, the family is able to disarm the thugs and get the upper hand. They do not squander their opportunity for retribution.

Here's the trailer (NSFW language, very brief nudity):

My question: anyone ever seen this thing?

i saw it in Times Square back before it became Disneyland.

I actually worked with Straw Weisman, the writer, back when I was in L.A. He gave me a signed copy of the DVD.

This is an example of "grindhouse cinema" that Tarantino/Rodriquez tied to emulate last year. Back in the 70s you saw all kinds of these movies on the bottom of triple features and playing in drive-ins. Nowadays, they'd be called "straight-to-video."

William Sanderson is indeed quite good in it, and the film is pretty raw. What Last House on the Left is to horror, Fight For Your Life is to grindhouse.

Hey, Dom, have you ever heard of the publication Sleazoid Express. I used to subscribe back in graduate school. I had an office in grad school with a door, so I put up a headline "Inside: Poor White Trash. See How They Live" taken from Sleazoid.

Just realized where I'd seen that Mexican actor before:

"Mongo? Santa Maria, Mongo!"

Dom, do you remember lending this DVD to me in Vegas?

Definitely a landmark release.

I really wish PG-13 had never been invented.

TBD. But very likely. If nothing else I'll play some satellites and try to leverage that into a few mil.

Never seen Deadwood, but I immediately recognized that guy in the trailer as the one who played Larry on the Newhart show. "This is my brother Darryl, this is my other brother Darryl".
