Many times you guys have emphasized how a dress shirt fits is the most important aspect. Jeans/sport shirt is my standard going out look--and I just recently lost a bit of weight--so now is as good a time as any to try and get things right.

IMO the black shirt fits very well, the blue shirt is good but not great, and the white shirt is foolishly big. I include it because I wonder if I take it to a tailor, can he make it fit like the black shirt or is it beyond saving? Will taking the blue shirt to a tailor improve it significantly enough to be worth the hassle?

I never noticed how the bottoms of the middle jeans look kind of funnily big. Is that normal is there something I should do? I never had them hemmed so they are a bit long which may be part of the problem.

Comments on fit and any general criticisms/ridicule are appreciated.

Sounds like you have a good feel about what's needed here. Nothing wrong with the middle fit at all, but if you take the shirt in at the waist and the jeans in the lower leg, it could look great. The jeans on the right look like they need to be stretched a little and broken in, but probably okay. Shirt on the left needs a tailor and the jeans are beyond help. Can't tell about the shoes from this angle but they look too dressy for jeans.

A good tailor can basically (will somewhat) rebuild the entire shirt. So never fear. Whether this is a good idea... Up to you and your tailor to determine (love the material, sentimental value etc).

the fit on the black shirt is awesome. who makes it?

I hear darts also work well for making a shirt fit better

Thanks for the comments, I will start a search for a decent tailor and hopefully report back. The jeans on the right are brand new so they will definitely stretch and break in a bit.

The black shirt is a D&G slim fit that I bought a few years ago. It's got a bit of spandex or lycra in it which gives it some stretch/shine as well.

I like your shoes but not with these outfits. Personally I think something in brown/light brown would look better. I love the black shirt, btw.

could anyone suggest some good black shoes to wear with jeans and a dress shirt for going out?

also, i'd appreciate any thoughts about what kind of shoes (color / style) to wear when wearing a polo type shirt and shorts in the summer. where i live, it's oppressively hot, and that's a common look for me when my friends and i hang out to do some patio drinking at bars.

i hate wearing sandals, but i guess some tretorn / fred perry / pf flyers / whatever, etc. canvas style shoes would be ok. just seems a tiny bit underdressed if i'm out with a girl though.

I need another pair of shoes for summer and am not sure what to get. I have standard brown Alden's rubber soled penny loafers and some black AE slip-ons with a flat top and slightly square (but good square toe).

I need another pair of shoes, potentially to wear without socks that work with both khakis and dark wash, raw and/or selvage jeans. I don't really like the look of the brown penny's with dark jeans and the dark jeans and black shoes can be a bit much for summer even in NYC.

I am thinking something a bit more casually maybe even along the lines of the white shoes above. Any thoughts on something that can be worn with pastel button downs tucked into dark jeans that isn't black or brown?

Thanks in advance.

As I posted above the Superga Torino is GOAT

Vans may be a little too 'brah' for NY but they're pretty a pretty good option too imo

You said no brown which cuts out most sperry topsiders, but you could look into some of the colab ones, like the boa ones.

Not sure if its your thing but Pointer shoes are pretty interesting. Good variety at pointerfootwear.com

Seavees has good variety too.

Thanks for the recs. It is not that I am absolutely against brown I just don't think brown leather looks very good with dark wash/raw/selvage jeans. Maybe if someone can point me to a look (and maybe not traditional calfskin) I would feel differently but I just don't like the way my current stuff looks. My black shoes look great with them but don't want only black leather shoes for summer.

I am currently leaning towards something like the white ones above as I feel like they look good and go well with dark jeans and a button down or khakis and a polo. Also feels like you can wear them to just about anyplace other than maybe a club and knowing NYC you could even get away with them there if they were "cool" enough.

Any ideas that are alternatives to the whites that people really like I would be interested in as well.

As a shorter person (5'9) who's always worn short(er) shorts, I'm pretty pumped about the apparent movement in the short short direction. Tons of brands are doing it for shorts and boardshorts, but for beach dwellers like myself I wanted to pimp Zanerobe. Aussie brand with some pretty sick retro style boardshorts.

couple examples:

I like them a lot cus they're a little more rubbery (strange wording- less firm) than some others like Sundek and more classic than some of the mainstream surfwear.

The website is weird, it seems they have a small allotment that sells out pretty quickly and doesnt reup for a few months, so if you see some you like, jump on them. Also, soliscompany has them on their site and I recently ordered a pair and was happy w the delivery, etc.

Sorry to spam the forum again w/ a sale, but I have a really nice pair of shoes I thought I'd offer this thread before I sell them on StyleForum. If anyone has a serious problem with this I'll take the post down but I'd figure I'd try to hookup some fellow 2p2'ers with a good deal.

FS:

Lloyd & Haig Plain Toe Bluchers
Condition: Used, seem to have been worn once or twice
Size: 8.5E UK / 9D USA

Price: $75 shipped in the CONUSA

Hi guys, I bought these shoes off of a seller here, but they unfortunately didn't fit me. I'm closer to a 9.5D and thought I might be able to squeeze into them. I was wrong.

They are gorgeous shoes and I really wish I could keep them, because they are a steal for the price. From some research it looks like these shoes originally sold for somewhere in the $400 range.

I'd also be interested in suggestions for pants. I'm a smaller guy and have very thin legs.

I don't like really tapered stuff but at 6'5" with a 36/38 inch waist I often end up needing something of the like for things to fit. I absolutely love the cut of all the John Varvatos stuff I have, tapers a bit at the knee and then flares a bit back out at the cuff.
