I don't know the brand, (might be something on styleforum) but that's an awesome gift from the wife. Very good call on her part.

So I just got a new pair of casual brown shoes to wear with jeans and my winter jacket is a black leather jacket. I thought it would be tacky to wear these together but I've had people tell me that I'm a freak and it doesn't matter. What are your guys opinions on this?

It doesn't matter.

Spoiler:
You freak.

I wouldn't wear brown shoes with a black suit, but wearing brown shoes with a black winter jacket in a casual way is totally fine. I think the people who say otherwise tend to be the style by numbers type anyway.

I think I'm going to buy this unless people object/have other suggestions. From JCrew, retails for $225 but can get it on ebay for like $170

I want a nice leather messenger bag. Similar to the one I posted above (from Jcrew for $225). What other brands should I consider? Looked at Coach and Tumi. Price would be $400 tops, unless I really needed to spend more to get exactly what I wanted/tremendous value on a used piece.

Ideas?

for awesomeness but >$400. Can probably find a used one for cheaper though.

Saddleback bags look quite nice. Be aware that the thick full grain leather is heavier than you may think.

I got this on sale for under $500, but after reading some negative reviews I'm thinking of cancelling my backorder. I'm looking for a similar weekend size bag though.

I'd stay away from Coach and Tumi. Not that they're that bad quality, but any company that caters to middle aged white women is going to churn out an overpriced, mediocre product. I'd stick to the more outdoor oriented companies like Filson, Barbour, Saddleback, maybe Orvis, etc.

Why so keen on leather? IMO it's kind of a played out style at this point, and it's certainly a much bigger pain to care for than canvas or waxed cotton. I have the Filson medium field bag that's made out of oil finished twill and that's been a very good purchase.

It's made by Belstaff, so technically not a JCrew product, just made for J Crew. I read some reviews of the Belstaff bags in a thread on Styleforum.

I know this was in reference to the leather bags, but I disagree about Tumi being overpriced and mediocre. Their ballistic nylon briefcases are absolutely awesome.

Any good Jacket recommendations?

I'm not looking for a winter coat, more of a stylish jacket that has personality. Namely, something that can be worn with relative warmth in winter, while not too layered or heavy for early spring.

In other news, I think I found my favorite pair of shoes:

Bally's

Not quite worth 700+ for, though.

New charcoal Alfani suit plus dark red skinny tie purchased from Macy's today for about $250 total, pics to follow. Fits awesome, seems like it could be worn anywhere.

Had to return a piece of luggage at Tumi and they would only give me store credit. I have 640 dollars and would sell it for a reasonable offer if anyone is interested. PM me.
