It's not bad, you just have to set up your ideal search parameters once and then save them.

I was watching some of those Meermin seconds. But I talked myself out of even bidding because I have enough black shoes and I figured the snipers would come in at the end and this one would wind up around $150.

Woke up this morning to see there was almost no activity. Now I've got non-buyers remorse.

I don't understand why you would not bid on something just because you're afraid someone else would bid higher.

Unlimited money then i'd head down to Saville Row and get fitted for a bunch of styles/materials.

Unlimited money:
Kiton
Saville Row
KMW
G&G

Kiton is nice, kinda boring designs tho, seems like the same thing as Brioni. Eff Saville Row, I don't wanna look like Prince Charles. I wouldn't wear tailored suits everyday just because I could afford it.

Never heard of KMW or G&G, what are the full names?

Auction was ending at like 5am, didn't feel like trying to be up for it since I thought the winning price would be more than I wanted to pay. I could've set up an autobid, but IMO that's only a good way to win an auction and not a good way to get something for as cheaply as possible.

Gixen is decent ebay sniping tool. Put in what its worth to you and don't worry about it.

lets say i'm pairing a light blue shirt + tie with khaki (well more like tan coloured) pants.

Is it mandatory I go brown shoes + brown belt or is black shoes + black belt fine?

environment: pretty big deal industry meeting where ppl will dress up for like shirt & tie but not wear suits - we're dealing with engineers here so not exactly going to be fashion kings. However I'm going to be the youngest person there probably by 10+ years so I want to look good

Thinking of pulling the trigger on this; any way to score something similar in the $200 range?

So I need a new suit, and I don't have a ton of money to spend. Found a traveling tailor that's hitting Chicago and the company is calling Indochino. Anybody have any experience with this? Worth the time and money?

Picked up the Alden captoe medallion in tan.

Really like them for navy suits and as a change-up to my cordovan monkstraps w/ jeans for the summer.

If I bid at 11pm when I was going to bed then either I become the highest bidder then, or ebay notifies that me I was immediately outbid by someone else's autobid and I have the chance to to bid again immediately. If I decide to continue and I outbid the other bidder then they now have 6 hours to realize they've been outbid and increase their max, which if they choose to do so would yield a win for them. So I win if my max is truly higher than their max, or if they don't check in the next 6 hours.

Lots of people will set a max that is well below the max that they are actually willing to pay. Either fear of commitment, or uncertainty of the quality of the product (especially in small auctions), or there are other substitute auctions running that they want to see play out before deciding on their real max. Because of this, the game exhibits a significant last mover advantage, and the way to be the last mover is to be monitoring and participating in the auction as it closes.

If I wait until the last minute to bid, all I need to do is set my max above the other player's "max." Which remember, is likely below their true max, but if they've had the highest bid all this time then they weren't given a reason to increase their "max" above its current level.

If there are 2 players bidding and neither player is setting their max bid at the max price that they would actually pay, then it should be pretty clear that the best way to win is to actively snipe. The edge that sniping provides decreases significantly as the number of participants increases, but on a small auction for a relatively unknown brand of shoes where there has only been 1 bid thus far, the number of people seriously interested in the auction is probably pretty small.

I doubt sniping would do **** for something like near mint Alden Indy boots, where there are probably a dozen of participants and a very defined market value of the product. In that instance the product will almost always go to the player who actually has the highest true max, and the auction operates pretty efficiently.

Based on the jacket I'd say hit up the seller if you're looking for a sugar daddy

What you guys think of these Allen Edmonds? I first noticed them during the anniversary sale in April, when I think they were cheaper than this. I wasn't sure about them then but they've stuck in my mind. They were back at $345 the past three months but are now down to $249. I can get another $35 off by donating a pair of shoes I don't wear, but I will have to pay tax in my state. Shoes are the Carlsbad in Chili. I prefer slip-ons and think they would look good with a suit.

I mean to each his own, but I'd never wear something like that in a professional setting or otherwise. Looks like something my grandpa would have worn in the 70s, no offense.

I might wear those with a linen suit if I were going to a wedding on an island and I were like 65 years old. Otherwise, probably not.
