There are tons of them, your personal aesthetic preferences are the important thing. DB or single? Belted? Epaulets? Sleeve buckles? Storm flaps? There are tons of options and there are valid stylistic and practical arguments for and against all of them.

I'd like to get a pair of grey/charcoal chinos. I have a thin build. Any particular brand? I saw those Dockers grey pants posted a little bit ago..are there sufficient or is there a better brand?

Have you tried them on or seen them in person?

Also, when looking at boots like these, I think it's good to be clear on what you want out of them, as that can make a significant difference in what products you should be looking at. Just as an example (and I'm going to use AE here since I'm familiar with their line) if you were looking at wingtip boots and you want something more rugged you would go with

http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline...40000000001_-1

but if you wanted something to wear indoors/socially or even for limited dress duty or with (some) suits you would go

or

Each of those have differences in the lacing and sole that make them vastly better suited for particular use cases. It's pretty subtle if you don't know what you're looking for, though.
I called into the Timberland shop and had them order me a pair to try on, no obligation to buy and should be available in a few weeks. No idea on the construction quality of them either.

I like the AE wingtips minus the laces but after a quick search on google no shops stock them in my City and I'd obviously need to try them on first.

Thanks for the response.

Is there a big quality upgrade with Bonobos chinos vs Banana Republic chinos? I can get Banana Republic chinos for about $30 cheaper.

Allen Edmonds has their Yuma boot on sale for 117. Thinking about getting the distressed grey. Thoughts?

Those are ugly. I'd stay away from anything casual from AE. It's not their thing.

I don't really have an alternative to suggest. Decent $120-$150 boots can be found on sale, but you really have to scour the webz.

By the way, I don't know anyone that "needs" grey boots. I'd rather have one really nice pair of black boots than a mediocre black and a mediocre grey.

Yeah, I'm not too enamored with the look (the boat shoe front end annoys me), but it's more of me wanting another pair of boots and not finding anything under 200 that's just right. Something like the AE Bayfield would be perfect. Hard to come by, though.

Have you looked on ebay? there are tons of NIB AEs out there, many for pretty cheap.

Yeah, but I'm specifically looking for a high ankle laced boot in brown or grey, in 12 or 11.5. I don't see any in the 150-200 price range.

yes unless you are super fat and need something baggy and shapeless which is what you will get from BR.

bonobos is in a totally different league.

Going to make a move on these Grey chinos. Belt suggestions with them? I have dark blue chinos already. Should I be picking up multiple belts?

Belts should at least roughly match your shoes. Some people have one medium brown belt that goes with light brown shoes, medium brown shoes and dark brown shoes. Some people have a different belt that matches perfectly to every pair of shoes they own. Up to you how matchy matchy you get. With grey and navy chinos I'm going to assume you're wearing brown shoes so get a brown belt of some sort.

if your belt always matches your shoe perfectly it's a little weird IMO. like your tie and pocket square matching, sort of, not quite that bad though.

I mean it's one thing if you just happen to have a belt and shoes that exactly match but if they ALWAYS match then you're doing something wrong.

Any recommendations for dress shoes that are classy yet is a bit edgy? I'm in my early thirties and so don't want old men shoes. I'd be wearing these for job interviews (office job-project management) and maybe for weddings. Price range up to $400.

Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenue is my favorite so far but I have no idea what other brands to look at.
