haha i had that same reaction. if you dont' want yuppies, and you don't want hipsters, it seems like you're pretty much left with either frat boys or blue collar circles. or maybe stoners?

You'll prob like Boka, although they only have 10 or so outside tables so you might want to request one when you res.

they have some pretty good specials in the bar area -- thursday jumps out as it's $4 burgers and $4 domestic beers.

ate in the restaurant area last week before a bulls game, much pricier, food was good but not great, i don't think i'd go back (area sux) unless it was for the special or it was before an event at the united center.

Edit: Woha had noone idea that was the same place although 'Boka' did sound familiar. I guess I didn't recognize it because I are outdoors on sat and indoors with you. Anyway I recall it was better the time that we made, amazing that I totally blanked on having gone there before.

thanks, I was asking because I heard they're looking for pastry interns, and I'd only apply for an unpaid job in that neighborhood if it was really outstanding.

THey were cooked just fine(though the halibut was slightly dry) and the portions were perfect too, but I didn't really get into either of the dishes though. The entire meal cost me $60 with tip and was fine, but I know that I can find plenty of places in the city that will cost me the same amount and leave me more satisfied food wise

NYMag has this article about best places to live there (http://nymag.com/realestate/neighborhoods/2010/65374/) with awesome interactive feature, by Nate Silver. They really need to do this for Chicago, would cut down on half the posts here.

I tried two new restaurants recently:

1. Macku (www.mackusushi.com) - New sushi restaurant around Clybourn and Webster. Thought it was fantastic. Lot of unique dishes, really enjoyed it. Their specialty is sashimi dishes with different toppings (i.e. other fish, sauces). It's a new-ish place, but starting to gain some popularity I think.

2. BOKA (www.bokachicago.com) - Heard so many good things about this place, but I was a bit disappointed. The food was good, just wasn't that great, and seemed overly pricey for the food I was getting. Not sure what it was, just overall underwhelmed...

I live right by there as well. Good cupcakes, bit overpriced, but always fun to play connect 4 for a hour.

Been to almost all of the restaurants on Clark between Fullerton and Diversey. Obviously Toro is the best, as discussed earlier in the thread. Also like Dunlay's for breakfast. Hashbrowns are addicting. Outdoor seating which will be nice for the Summer. I agree that The Counter is pretty solid Burger Bar. I like it better than DMK. Also think Duke's is a solid place for burgers that's in the area.

Ate at Luxbar. Wasn't particularly impressed, but goddamn I love sliders. It's a good place to eat light and have a few drinks before going out. Filet Mignon Slider FTW.

Hate to grunch but I hope that's not the only thing you are coming for. It's sooo overrated. That is unless you like standing in line in the heat, overpriced food ($3-4 for one rib), and gang violence.

Ya, the Taste is terrible. Every year I feel pressured to go and every year I hate it. The only thing worthwhile at the Taste are the free concerts.

Thoughts as in opinions of the area? It's decent, that exact intersection is not super nice (but also not bad), and the areas to the immediate east are very nice. Close to a lot of bars/stores/etc. Definitely a little older crowd than the Lincoln Park/Lakeview type.

yeah kind of weird area, there's some pretty gritty territory a few blocks away (west) and some super swank territory a few blocks away (east). it's real close to the good restaurants of rush, and i always love living close to the shore, there's an underpass right at division. pretty nice formula fitness right there too.

This is a great thread, all the replies are much appreciated. I'm heading out there this friday for 4 days to hang out with a friend. Going to be in this location:

Any recommendations on places near there to party or eat? I'm 28 so I'm not trying to hit up any college bars, but am down for anything fun. So far I got:

• Violet Hour in Wicker Park for weekdays
• Estelle’s
• The Map Room
• Wells St. in Old Town
