I'm more used to this version of Poor Boy by Bukka White. I love how he plays slide on this. This is after his rediscovery, I guess. Random fact: He became friends with John Fahey in part because they shared a love of trains.

Please note that the harmonica players include Doctor Ross (the Harmonica Boss) and John Lee Hooker. Led off by Shakey (Big Walter) Horton.

This is the first and only time I've heard Hooker play harmonica, but I like to listen to him rooting Alan Wilson on on his Canned Heat album.

probably few know that in addition to Hound Dog Big Mama wrote Ball and Chain made famous by Janis Joplin
apologies to Big Mama - in my first post I misspelled her last name - can't now edit - the correct spelling is Thornton

Which reminds me of the original Piece of my Heart sung by Aretha's sister Erma

Fallaway - were you posting around these parts a couple of years ago when Doctor Ross was the topic of discussion?

and of course, Cat Squirrel (also covered by Jethro Tull on 'This Was' and Cream on 'Fresh Cream')

I had never heard Isiah Ross until your first post. Now he keeps appearing in different places. Somebody was talking about his guitar-playing style on another board the other day.

I just ordered another Gary Davis guitar book to learn this song. I can't find any recording of him playing it, although there is supposedly some obscure LP out there with it. The Blind Willie McTell song Little Delia has different lyrics. This is a random guy playing the Gary Davis version.

Robert Johnson - the legend
all his work on one album
all traditional delta blues - except one
this one
this track
what's so interesting, to me anyway, is that in this tune he uses lots of subtle jazz chords not heard in delta blues music

it shows what a tremendously gifted musician he really was
