More likely this............

Probably not appropriate in a heavier based thread but speaking of Poison I am enjoying Steel Pather's album at the minute.

this thread makes me very glad that I'm still young. If I had died or lost my hearing by the late 90s, I would never have been able to hear any decent heavy music.

If you listen to death metal, you've heard of Immolation. But I'm still putting their new album in here. I can't believe they are still kicking ass after all of these years. Nothing they can do now touches the failures for gods/close to a world below/unholy cult trifecta, but they can still write some solid riffs.

That video represents everything I hate about new metalcore. Seriously, what's with all the screamers?

Good Death Metal is the greatest thing ever made. A total inversion of pop music, a delicious obsession for absurdist melodic development, and utter romanticism. It's like if Schubert ****ed Berg and then decided to make fun of the beatles (bach might be in there somewhere too, dont tell anyone).

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness. This is simply taking the premise Slayer laid out in RiB, and then saying hey, lets pretend like we're romantic composers on top of it. It's a mini-symphony. And this is when metal gets really damn fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti4Vu...eature=related

I moved a bit away from Metal but I still buy Cds from bands that I enjoyed from their first albums, those are Type O negative and My dying bride mainly. I really hate that trashy, glam metal so I really need some music with real melodies that give me mood swings : My dying Bride will surely be my favorite funeral anthem :

My Dying Bride - The Cry Of Mankind

Try to listen to DARK MOOR. The greatest sympho-power metal from Spain.

The greatest symphonic-doom metal is HAGGARD.

And of course CHILDREN OF BODOM is for Melodic-death

If you dig on Godflesh, seriously check out Jesu. It's where Godflesh was heading towards but could never really get to with restrictions of the genre.
I'm seeing Swans in Philly in September. I'm not really sure what to expect except and old, gray haired, Michael Gira.

AVZHIA:

I think the best black metal band in existence today is Avzhia. It seems that no one has ever heard of them unfortunately. They make majestic, epic, intelligent metal, well informed by previous black metal but also vitally creative themselves, not confining themselves to the now stale standards of the genre like most bands. Avzhia risks melodrama and takes its self very seriously, but I feel that these potential pitfalls are avoided through their often understated melodic sense. Highly, highly recommended to anyone who enjoys epic, wandering music.

CEREMONIUM:

Built from the ruins of melodic Scandinavian death metal (by which I mean unanimated, early at the gates, amorphis). Another ridiculously unappreciated band. Highly informed of previous works, various death metal styles are integrated seamlessly together in an uncommonly cohesive and impressive manner. Ceremonium is unquestionably awesome.
