KBZ providing shock and awe itt.

Is that Old Rasputin aged in Buffalo Trace barrels? Those are 2 of my favorites. Is that a yearly release or one time deal?

Apparently that's what it is, honestly someone gave it to me so I don't know much. note this is the Old Rasputin from Netherlands, not the one from North Coast. it's actually funny to see that label b/c I'm nearly sure they aren't allowed to use that label in the US b/c of litigation from North Coast. they came up with something really snarky to sell in the US as a result of that.

KBZ, have you had any Chocolate Rain yet? I have a few bottles in transit, cannot wait to try it (but likely will because it's too much of a treat to not age for a bit).

Next time you're in town, I can easily bring some fun stuff as well (along with the normal vino)

goofy, I've had Chocolate Rain and it's utterly fantastic. Was definitely one of my top Brews of the Year last year

have not.

It ran out at the beer fest I was at a couple weeks back before I got there...but I didn't really try to hard to get it since I had this bottle on home.

I just bought some KBS today, and I'm ***officially*** done buying beer for a while. it's sort of crazy to me I came to acquire this much beer just sitting there, so I'm going to put a dent in it.

I have a few years of KBS (12, 13, and 14) I'm going to taste together this weekend with some friends. looking forward to that. might taste it against a Bourbon County (or Coffee?) to compare.

Yea, I'm way overdue for a Chicago trip. You are also way overdue for an NYC trip imo.

Place near me is getting 100 bottles of KBS tomorrow, but they don't know when and they are having a 1 bottle limit per person. I'm stopping by around 10:30am (thankfully I have a doc appt to get me in late), then will have my wife stop by every few hours until I get off work.

Something tells me the workers will take 50 for themselves and I'll come up empty.

I would guess that if they advertise 100 bottles, it's what they sell.

tonight I had 2 beers

Alchemist Petit Mutant

this was great. a nice amount of funk, nice amount of cherries, very easy to drink and complex at the same time. sorry no pic.

and

Terrapin Wake and Bake Coffee Stout

This one I love as well. huge coffee aroma and taste, thick feel, nice and bitter. a great after dinner beer.

.

Have you tried any other Terrapin beers? Meaning meaning to and am wondering if they're of consistently high quality.

In general I prefer Terrapin to Sweetwater, when it comes down to GA breweries. Not everything they make is my thing, but I don't think I've ever had a Terrapin that's had a real flaw.

The flagship rye pale is a really good beer and I'd often get that over SN pale or OB Dale's, etc.

EDIT: Even though those are both good too!

Untappd is telling me I can get KBS on tap in Boston. I should probably go out of my way to do so right? Never had it / never even seen it locally.

Same goes for Zombie Dust actually.

KBS was just released in liquor stores around Boston. in most places it came and went super fast but I'm sure some random places have some. or places selling it for like $9 / bottle. that's pretty bad...probably not much different than you would pay in a bar.

Over the past couple of days I was able to purchase six bottles of KBS, two bottles of Bell's Black Note, and two bottles of BBA Old Rasputin. Good beer week for me!

New developments in the Mikkeller story. First, I am a moron - the package that cleared customs earlier turned out to have been a replacement part for a storm door that happened to be shipped out of Canada. (Explaining why it went through Minnesota.) And it was delivered.

As for the Mikkeller order:
I initially had information from Europe shipping, and there was no indication of any problems. But I waited for almost 2 weeks and still didn't have the package, so I contacted Mikkeller. They gave me US shipping info, where the most recent status was 3/16 "Inbound Out of Customs". I initially thought that meant customs had seized it, but the info box indicated that it cleared customs. Finally, yesterday, I got notice that the package had moved from NY to my local post office, and was delivered shortly after:

So that was pretty good news - I didn't understand why it took so long, but all's well that ends well.

I get home and see that my wife has brought the package in. Fairly small package, but it looks like it's in pretty rough shape:

I see a label on it, with an unsurprising note:

Yes, definitely possibly damaged. I started opening the package:

Hmm, packing peanuts aren't supposed to be brown. At this point, my wife hears my shrieks of anguish and quite reasonably says that if there are broken bottles I should open it outside. So I take it outside and assess the full damage. The victims (1 barrel-aged Vanilla Shake, 1 regular Vanilla Shake):

The survivors (3 barrel-aged Vanilla Shake, 1 regular Vanilla Shake):

I've contacted Mikkeller to let them know what happened. Not sure what to expect from them, but I've read that their customer service is very good. So we'll see.

Passed up on KBS today as I'll be able to get it on draft in the next couple weeks at a lot of the places I frequent.

Picked up some oddsides ales and some new shorts today. Only MI distribution but oddsides is fantastic.

They got the shipment at 2:30, my wife went at 3 and got me a bottle, there were approximately 75 left at that time. I went at 6 after work and they were sold out.

That's rough, at least you got some drinkable beers out of it. In the meantime I'd learn how to extract beer from packing peanuts.
