The downtown location only has beer to go while Canton has a decent sized draft list to drink there. If you just want cans/growlers stay downtown, but if you really want a few pints you have to head to Canton. Just stay away from going there at rush hour, it can easily take an hour depending on the time of day.

Also their to go and onsite lists on their respective web-pages are almost always up-to-date.

Awesome.

I think work schedule is going to be pretty tight so I'll rely on other bars for actual drinking, and grab cans to pack at the downtown location.

Row 34 is right next to downtown location and they typically have a few trillium beers on tap.

They also have a beer garden on the greenway near the downtown location. That's your best bet for draft.

Night Shift has a beer garden on the esplanade now which looks pretty sweet.

Man did I run hot. First I ordered a Prison Rodeo, but they only had enough left for about 90% of a beer so they gave it to me for free. This was pretty good but not the best coffee IPA I've ever had. Next up was the Chili Bomb, this was fine, I think you guys like imperial stouts a lot more than I do. I wrap up with a Deep Space (really smooth DIPA, couldnt believe it was 10%, want to drink more of these this weekend) and at this point the kitchen mistakenly sends out a quesadilla that they give to me for free (Villains' bar food is good, but I definitely wouldn't recommend the quesadilla over all the other options). The total for all of the above is $13, and I tip $12 in appreciation of all the freebies, and when the bartender sees this he gives me a Double Daisy Cutter on the house. So yeah, 4 nice beers and a quesadilla for $25 including tip.

I think at this point Villains is definitely my #1 place to drink beer in Chicago, though I'd like to get back to Map Room and Fountainhead before the end of the weekend to test this theory.
Be glad you got there when you did. Villains is closing in five days, on 9/8.

any updates on your Trill trips, cit?

Now that oktoberfest is underway, a lot of seasonals happening. I had the Sam Adams Oktoberfest at a low A ball game in Hudson Valley, NY this weekend, and it was surprisingly solid.

Had a Von Trapp Oktoberfest with dinner in Beacon, NY later that night and it was so delightful I ended up ordering a 2nd.

LAGERS.

Damn! Here's the story--

Hope they give it a third try in a better location. I'll miss it.

kc,

I get in tomorrow around noon.

Had a couple tasty hazy things the past couple days:

Hailstorm Zero Day - cloudier and browner than almost anything I've seen in the Midwest. Very fresh. Sort of looking like apple cider or cider vinegar. Pretty strong apricot. Strong Galaxy hop taste. Don't think I've had loral hops before? Super pleasant to drink, especially outside when it was >90. 8%.

Hop Butcher Double Grid. Surprisingly, since Grid was not a hit for me, this was pretty much a home run. Again, especially considering outdoor drinking and extreme heat. Wife said it tasted like Sunny D. Lots of fruit. Enough bitter on the finish to balance things out. Texture not "chewy" or slimy which some hazy beers seem to have. While I'd say it's a notch below various treehouse stuff I've sampled, it was at least as good as the modern times I've had, and of course local availability is great.

Has anyone here had Brewing Projekt (besides me)? Given their last several batches I don't think I'm exaggerating to say their hazy game is as good as anyone in the country (that I've had).

Other beers I've had recently:

BFM 225 Saison - Grapes - This is ****ing amazing. BFM may be the most underrated/underappreciated brewery in the world. They need to put out a pastry stout or something.

Hill Farmstead M&C 8 - Just ok, really. Had a pretty strong whiskey flavor imo, which ended up dominating the beer and other barrel flavors. I was pretty disappointed, and would rank it well below the Central Waters anniversary beers/Black Gold.

Gulden Draak - I've had this many times, and I'll have it many more. The toffee/caramel flavors are so good.

Revolution Straight Jacket - Not usually a big barleywine guy, but this was pretty good. Might even say I like it more than BCBBW.

3 Sheeps - The Wolf. This and most of their barrel aged beers stouts are really, really good. In the Central Waters/Revolution/BCBS tier. Very underrated imo.

BFM 20th Anniversary. This is a little more tart than the first bottle I had, but still fantastic. This is an auto-buy if I ever see it on the shelf again. Really delicious.
Managed to find 5 more bottles and am looking forward to killing them all.

spider, yeah, I saw those posts and was a good reminder as I'd been meaning to try it - my main bar carries bottles of it on a semi-regular basis. It's tough because it's like $10-12 for a ~12oz beer and they normally have something really good on tap for considerably less than that. But they had it on tap this last weekend and I just said **** it and ordered it (author's note: it was still $10). Really nice.

I have a bottle of Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien aged in Vin Jaune barrels from BFM that sounds weird but I'm sure it's amazing, and it's actually one of my most prized bottles despite having a number of bottles that I'm sure are worth more.

Spivey

I was at Brewing Projekts new spot the other week, I haven't tried a ton of hazy stuff so i cant specifically comment on that but the beers I've had from them were very good.

Excited to crack these open. At $11 a "bottle," which turned out to be 500ml (17.6oz, 1.1 pints, lolAmerica) instead of somewhere in the 22-25oz range, there's almost no chance of me buying them again but still.

This is a brand new beer and today was day one of release so I was expecting massive lines, but it was only a 30 minute wait. Last time was almost an hour.

Isn't one of the brewers or owners of Bottle Logic a 2p2er that used to post ITT? If so, anyone remember the username?

FWIW I also had the 225, not the 400. But I had it on tap and it was listed as 225 - Grapes. It seems like there's a lot of different variants and I'm also struggling to determine how many of these are really variants just people logging it to different **** online, but I think 225 and 400 are definitely different beers. I've not seen 400 at any of my local stores to my knowledge. 225 is still really good.

In a way I almost envy you. It's been some time since I considered $11/500ml "expensive". Not cheap, certainly, but whatevs.

You should see the prices from some places, like Side Project.

I looked at their site. Nice site, but no prices. I know those haute BBA stouts can be so 'spensive though.

I visited Tioga-Sequoia Brewery in Downtown Fresno. I indulged in three IPA’s.

The General Sherman IPA. Note the beautiful plastic cup. I rate this excellent. A West Coast style IPA at its best.

The Fulton Street IPA that added zest to my elegantly prepared meal supplied by the food truck vendors on premise. Fulton St. is a slightly cloudy IPA that I also rate excellent. I think the General Sherman is a bit better but that is probably a personal preference.

This is a fun place with lots of space, games, TV’s, noise and even a few families along with all the hipsters, beer lovers, hangers on, and millennium youngsters.

I finished with a new release: New England Californication IPA. I presume this is supposed to be a west coast twist on New England Style IPA’s. California does it better sort of thing. It was good. Less zest than most IPA’s I’m use to but a smooth clean taste that washed my palate well after that luscious dinner.

Worth a visit. Many other Beers on tap to enjoy.

2 trends that have a lot of people up in arms:
1) Pastry stouts that throw more and more adjuncts into the mix, to the point where it doesn't taste remotely like beer.

2) Ever-increasing prices for mediocre beers.

Opened a prime example last night:

LOL

LOL at me

Spoiler:
I loved it. I'm part of the problem.
