I may have picked The Sweet Hereafter, Blue, or the Rivette film. And I also like much of what has been picked already.

The Sweet Hereafter is excellent, but I'd rather watch Exotica again.

Everytime I think of Blue, I think of the scene with the reflection from Binoche's eyeball. That's just awesome.

A lot of picks last night and this morning. Here are my thoughts:

Before Sunrise: I absolutely love this movie, easily my favorite romantic movie. Just like a few other young posters in the thread, I like this one more than Before Sunset. But both are great.
Exotica: Haven't seen it. Sounds interesting.
Groundhog Day: I love it. It cracks me up. It is not only funny, but it works with a great story.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: The movie was strange, but it was fun. I understand the pick, just not my kind of movie.
Natural Born Killers: I had this one on my short list, but not ranked in my top 10, so it would have been hard to get.
Short Cuts: I didn't love this movie. The only Altman movie I love is 3 Sisters. However, I think the movie was a great adaptation of Raymond Carver's short stories. I liked the movie very much and I appreciate its greatness, it just didn't connect with me on a personal level.
Being John Malkovich: I remember liking the movie a lot, but I haven't seen it since watching it in the movie theaters. Luckily it is on instant watch, so I'll try to watch it this week.
The Ice Storm: Never heard of this movie before. But being an Ang Lee movie, plus being selected early in the draft, makes me want to watch it.
The Player: Similar to Short Cuts, I like it a lot, but not love it. I think I would like this more on a second viewing. At the time I watched this, I was watching many classics a week (about 4 or 5), so among classics, The Player might not seem as special, as it would among normal movies. I mean if you watch the Player the same week you watched The Godfather, Apocalypse Now and Citizen Kane, then all of a sudden, The Player doesn't look as good, which might have been what happened to me.
American History X: I like the movie, it was on my short list. I can see the complaints that Dominic raises, but I think the story is strong enough to forgive the director. Norton does a great job and the movie can hit you on an emotional level. That has to be worth something.
Clerks: I didn't like it. I agree that the dialogue is pretty good and it has some funny moments, but overall, it just wasn't that funny or entertaining to me.
Dead Man Walking: I haven't seen it since I saw it in the movie theaters, but it sounds and looks great.
La Belle Noiseuse: Haven't seen it.
As Good as it Gets: Another example of like but not love. I like the movie and it made me laugh, but it wasn't a movie that impacted me in any way.

No but I actually downloaded it last night, I'm pretty much downloading every movie I haven't seen in both drafts but unlike the 2000s I've hardly seen anything in this draft.

Unlike many, I actually enjoyed the Herzog remake and this seems to be universally acclaimed as better so I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Round 4
Pick #11 (#56 overall)

Gattaca by Andrew Niccol (1997)

Great science fiction movies are rare, the 90s have at least three of them (The Matrix, 12 Monkeys and Gattaca), so I am taking all of them.

Gattaca is about a future in which parents can manipulate the genes of their children to be healthier and more attractive at birth. The story follows Vincent (Ehtan Hawke) who was born in the natural way. After having a tough time in life (insurance wouldn't cover him, schools would not allow him in), his parents decided to not go the natural way the next time, so he has a gene-altered brother. Vincent has always wanted to be an astronaut and he does some illegal things to try to make his dream come true. This movie is about his quest.

I love the quote "There is no gene for the human spirit", which appears on the following movie poster:

Gattaca is a great movie that has action, entertainment and interesting ideas. Ideas are one of the reasons I am attracted to science fiction. The great thing about the movie is that it can also reach people that don't like science fiction. My mother and sister claim to hate science fiction, but they love Gattaca.

As an extra note, I recently read "Beggars in Spain", a short story by Nancy Kress written in the early 90s which is also about gene-alteration. I highly recommend that short story, it was outstanding.

The Matrix -Wackowski brothers (1999)
12 Monkeys - Terry Gilliam (1995)

I haven't seen it in a long time. I really want to watch it again.

Last night I watched Jerry McGuire with my wife, thinking she would love it. I was right. The movie has its share of funny moments, romantic moments and some very memorable moments ("Show me the Money", "Help me help you", "You complete me", "You had me at hello"). I had forgotten that the "you complete me" line was mentioned earlier in the film with a couple stating it in sign language.
During Rod's celebration after his touchdown near the end, I couldn't stop thinking "Too bad the NFL doesn't allow celebrations anymore". I really hope they change that stupid rule. If the other team gets offended for "excessive celebrations" they can go back to their mommy's arms.

Which decade could we go back to and still have a 12+ participant, 12+ round draft?

70's and 80's are both pretty loaded, no need to combine them imo. should split it up into 60's&50's and probably 40's+30's+20's+10's (even so, i doubt we will get 12 people for the last one)

I should probably give Rushmore another chance. Maybe I was too young to appreciate it when it came out. Ice Storm sounds cool too.
I know the Thin Red Line is supposed to be great and I loved the New World, but I am not so keen on rewatching it. I just read a depressing war book, the war movies can wait a while.

I planned on taking Gattaca with one of my next picks. Love that movie. Damn you. Also was hoping Being John Malkovich would fall to me, damn.

Damn, damn, damn. Why did I have to reach and draft Jurassic Park so early haha.

Yeah, I should've taken Dead Man Walking and waited on The Player...but I really thought DMW would last longer.

I'll take The Game

A great, creative thriller that keeps you interested and guessing. I'm a big fan of fincher so happy to pick up a 3rd movie of his (social network and sev7n) here. Movies like this are what defined the 90s for me personally; neo-noirs with a good story and great ending that move quickly and keep you hooked throughout.

I promise the next movie I choose will not be memorable for the ending.

So Far:
Shawshank
Usual Suspects
Sev7n
The Game
