At least Raging Bull I can understand someone who doesn't like good movies liking over Airplane!, but people picking Raiders, Aliens, Die Hard, and especially the forgettable Caddyshack over Airplane!, heads need to be on pikes.

I naively thought I could snag Airplane in round 3 or 4 or so.

I am not saying it's bad just that it ok. To be fair spoofs don't interest me much.

The Shining went undrafted in the Humanities draft. WTF, mate? Go back and take The Shining in our culture draft and give me Airplane! then.

But in my book Die Hard takes a steaming hot poop all over BU

Chill brah, Kubrick was off the board entirely by then.

The year 1980 is beastmoding so far. Never realized how epic that year was for movies.

Still a bunch of great movies from 1980. Might be close to the GOAT year for cinema. That and 1939.

I don't really like Airplane! or Caddyshack. How's that for blasphemy?

Airplane is great. Caddyshack is not. I watched it as a kid and didn't really like it. Then I gave it another chance a few years ago to see if I was missing something and it barely even raised a chuckle, and I generally like Bill Murray and Chevy Chase movies.

Also, this draft is moving painfully slow. People should PM someone their pick if their turn is coming up and they won't be around for a good while.

"sooner or later I rub everybody the wrong way"

Round 2

Big Trouble in Little China John Carpenter 1986

After Raising Arizona this was my only other must have movie. My draft is now a qualified success. I absolutely love this movie! Whenever I start watching it a big goofy grin appears on my face and doesn't disappear until probably an hour after its over. For me this movie is pure joy and the pinnacle of movie entertainment. This one also easily land in my all-time favorite top 25.

As I have said many times I love dialog and the dialog is awesome here. Every line out of Jark Burtons (Kurt Russell) mouth is pure gold. The character of Jack Burton is what makes the movie for me. He is one of my top 5 all-time favorite movie characters. The movie has flaws to be sure but for me it has such overwhelming positives that those flaws become negligable.

"We really shook the pillars of heaven didn't we Wang?"

Yes sir, you certainly did!

Airplane is a great choice and I was wondering where it might go. I certainly expected sooner rather than later. It was groundbreaking. I am having even more problems hanicapping this draft than I did the last one but I am guessing/hoping that I get my first 5 picks I have projected for myself.

Wow. MrBaseball, I think this is a great pick. Didn`t even think about that movie.
But now that you mentioned it, this is really what I understand as a classic 80s movie....look at that poster.

Wouldn`t have picked it myself, but I really enjoy this movie. Watch it everytime when I see it on TV. Cool pick.

I promise that I will pick by at least 7:30pmest if it is my turn (I should hope so). Don't really want to send a long list and there are enough picks ahead of me that it shouldn't be a problem.

Round 2, Pick #9, 24 overall

“As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.”

Spoiler:
This Is Spinal Tap - (1984, Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner))

I was about to take something else, and it`s quite early for a comedy but I love this movie and I don`t want to let anyone else have it.

Great “Doc-/Rock-/Mockumentary”, following the fictional rockband “Spinal Tap” on a fateful tour through the US.
Hilarious from start to finish. Much of the dialogs are all ad lib and the actors deliver every line perfectly. The songs are hysterical as well and everything adds up to one of the greatest comedies I know.

For the unlikely case that anybody here hasn`t seen it. Do it ASAP. For everybody who has scene it, watch it again. This one requires multiple viewings to fully enjoy it.
