I quit smoking 3 days ago.

I am not using an ecig, I don't plan to use any form of nicotine replacement. I think that's why I failed the last 4 attempts.

For others who have successfully quit in the gambling world please give me some tips. When I say quit, I mean quit.

PS.. Withdrawls are so bad today I flipped out on a coworker for taking the last Nature Valley fruit and nut bar.

You may need some kinda aerobics routine... like treadmill/run/walk/lift until u can't see str8. If you still haz job stress, get another job.

overkill. Esp 3+ weeks after u quit, and you can actually taste that crap.
Broccoli sautee'd in soy sauce/ Worcheister sauce, or gobs of lettuce w/ overload of bleu cheese/ranch/italian salad dressing may be necessary to stave off Icanhascheeseburger cravings. If you find yourself over-indulging teh bacon, LIFT.
Or walk. Losing the squirrel cage will do more 4 your health than everythang [except giving up teh tobacco].

Consider the following:
5 cartons of Marlboros, @ 60$/carton, over 4/5 weeks,
equals 1buyin @ 1/2 nlhe.
If you was doin' rollies, hell, you'll still have enuf 4 a couple 3 pokering books.

I smoked 2 packs a day for 30 years
Welbutrin, nicotine gum and I also ate a lot of cherries. I would keep the pit in my mouth for hours. May 30 2008 was the last time I smoked.

Best thing you can do is work on your thought processes. Be totally determined and keep telling yourself "there's no ****ing way I'm going to give in to this filthy life controlling addiction". Think of smoking as your number one enemy "a total C***".

Work on your fitness, exercise helps get rid of withdrawal depression and speeds up detox.

Detox as quickly as you can, drink lots of water and eat detoxifying foods.

A rubber ball is a good stress reliever. Squeeze that B**** hard. Gets you Popeye forearms too .

Made it thru the workday...

Wife asked me why I didn't do the dishes and proceeded to call her a worthless c*nt...

Wow nicotine withdrawal is no joke

Three days and you'll feel a lot better.

Three weeks and you're almost there. You'll still have the odd craving, but it wont be strong.

Three months is the biggie, make it to three months and you'll be addiction free.

Champix/Chantix dude.

I was the worst smoker ever and never thought I could ever stop. I haven't smoked in 7 months and am confident I've stopped for good.

These tablets are not nicotine replacement and make quitting ridiculously easy if you follow the course. Talk to your doctor about it.

Good luck and PM me if you want any more info about them

GL to you. I was a heavy smoker also, I quit (for the like 100th and hopefully last time) last September with nicotine patches, in the beginning I had two of the strong ones per day although you are supposed to do only one. But I am totally free of those or other nicotine for two months now. I could never bear the withdrawal without help, I have no idea how people can manage.

I'm really trying to go cold turkey with no crutches.

I have solid will power. I had quit for 7 years until my apartment was destroyed in Hurricane Sandy a few years back. Ended up living back at home with my mother, wife, sister, stepdad, and our combined 7 cats in a 2 bedroom townhouse for 9 months. Ended up stopping for beer one night on my way home from work and just asking the clerk for a pack without much thought. Fast forward a few years later and I'm up to a pack a day again.

Thx for the advice guys. I'll keep updating the thread for some positive reinforcement for myself and anyone who cares to follow along.

Doesn't that stuff mess with your mood?

It can give you some funky dreams and headaches/nausea at the start of the course, and maybe worse in a small %. But that's a small price to pay for being permanently smoke (and nicotine) free.

Seriously I can't recommend it highly enough. Being free of the cigs is pretty damn sweet. You will not regret it.

Know exactly "why you want to quit."

Go cold turkey.

Less relevant than in AA, but: people, places, and things.

Stay committed; don't dabble.

Good Luck.

Tbh the only reason I want to quit is just not be a smoker anymore. I hate the smell, the routine, and being a slave to my next cig break at work.

No nicotine in weed and it will probably keep you from killing your wife. Win, win!

Totally not true, at least not for me and quite a lot of people. Nicotine is one of the clingiest addictions there is. I quit 5.5 years ago and I still feel like I'm just one really bad day away from smoking again.

@OP Most people that quit successfully quit cold turkey. That's what worked for me after some failed attempts using other stuff. This was before vaping was common though, and at least if you never quit nicotine there's a lot healthier alternatives now if you can get used to them.

How transparent life becomes once the smoke clears, eh?

Move up to cigars, where they respect your ashes.

Add in trouble sleeping and you have it all but...it's a 16 week max program. After you stop taking it any side effects go away and you're not smoking. Well worth a few inconveniences for 16 weeks imo.
