I need a new laptop for school purposes. The only stipulation is that it has to be of Toshiba brand. I am a noob when it comes to computers and I have no idea what a good Toshiba computer is. I will be using it for homework, some poker, and running maybe 2-4 programs at a time. I bring pictures for my offering and promise more in return for suggestions. The winner will get a special NSFW picture or their choice of 5$ on PS.

Please don't get a computer that runs 2-4 programs at a time, it will blow up the internet !!

why Toshiba specifically?

On a side note, I love how bestbuy/circuit city type stores always describe their higher end systems as:

"ideal for people who want to run multiple programs at once" -- you can surf the web and burn mix cds!

I was actually rather annoyed when my MacBook Pro couldn't run all kinds of things at once. Photoshop CS3, Keynote, Numbers, Pages, Firefox, iTunes, Mail, and Preview. One of those things was sucking up my 2 GB of RAM.

definitely CS3, and maybe a bit of firefox. Are all your apps native? When I first got mine, and had to run stuff under rosetta, it got a bit boggy.

There's no such thing as too much hardware for CS3.

Grab iStat pro (a widget) to see what's sucking it all up. Also, those widgets take up a ******ed amount of memory.

The combo of CS3 and Keynote was the problem. Had to run one or the other, which is obv a major pain in the ass when I'm trying to EDIT PICTURES FOR A ****ING PRESENTATION!!!

Yeah, everything is native (getting CS3 was crucial). I'm used to Firefox ****ing up and requiring a reboot every day or so.

I'll check out iStat, but QFT on the widgets. I don't currently use any. When widgets came along, I was like, "big ****ing deal," and I think I was proven right.

Ah.. as for simple edits, I use Pixelmator. It's a pretty good lightweight replacement for photoshop. I was involved in the beta, and only really started to appreciate it when I realized how one practically needs a dedicated machine for CS3.
