why is it only in the films that robbers are so clever at breaking into banks and casinos etc.? (e.g. this film and oceans 11).

Well, in real life, breaking the law lands you in real life jail. So there's the deterrent factor.

That, or all the smart robbers don't get caught so you never hear about it.
