Insanely fun game we played the other day Insanely fun game we played the other day

This is a game we developed last friday when me and my friend were about to go party and wanted to try something new and fun. Creating this game took only a couple of minutes but it turned out to be a lot of fun.

The rules are pretty simple. It's basically a mixture of indian poker and pot limit holdem and I think it should be played heads up. Only face cards and aces are used. We used 1000bb stacks which seemed to be fine since we had a lot of action.

Both players are dealt 1 card each face down. Then the flop is dealt on the table before betting. The other player is on the button and posts small blind and the other player posts big blind. On the flop the button is first to act but is second to act on the turn and on the river.

Both players put their own cards to their foreheads to show it to the other player (without seeing their own cards). After the cards have been shown, they are put back on the table face down (you don't want to hold that card during the whole hand ).

After dealing the cards and betting the flop, turn and the river are played exactly like in pot limit holdem. The winner is the player who has the best hand out of 5 cards. All hands are the same as in holdem except flush and straight. Instead of flush we used "color", which is a hand equal to flush in strength and consists of 5 red or 5 black cards. A straight is a 4 card hand from A to J. If both players have a straight, then the fifth card will determine the winner (or if it's a split)

Let me give you an example of a hand we played. I want to point out that we didn't think about any strategies really, we just hopped into the game. I'm explaining here the hand and my thought process and obviously when I later put more thought into this game, I realized that I could have played a lot better overall.

I was on the button, the flop came K J K and my friend had A

So, since my friend had an ace and no backdoor color draw, I was thinking that I'm basically behind only with a Q so I decided to bet. My friend raised. Then I thought, wait a minute, do I have a queen? I didn't believe him so I called.

The turn came Q So I thought that if I have a queen (based on my friends raise), I have 4 fh outs and since there are only 10 cars in the deck, that's a pretty good situation. Same goes if I have a jack, and the situation is even better if I have a K. An ace would be a minimum of a split so I was happy to go all the way with this hand.

So my friend bet the turn and I called. Interestingly the river comes Q so both players think they might have a queen because of the action earlier. My friend checks (trying to trap me) and I see no reason in betting (if I bet and if I have a jack, he knows that he can't loose and will raise), so my friend takes the pot with the straight since I have J

In the end I lost the whole game and that cost me a drink at the club later, but that was fun nevertheless. I recommend trying it out

Some adjustments to the rules may be found pretty easily. Not sure if no limit would work and fixed limit might be too meh.
