Forging a Birth Certificate to Skip a Grade

In grade school, I always kinda wished that my parents had forged a birth certificate so the school thought I was a few months older than I actually was, and I would be in the higher grade a year earlier, essentially saving a year of my life (or so it seemed at the time). Now that I have a kid of my own, I'm wondering what it would take to do that. Would a forged birth certificate be enough, or would he need an alternate identity?
My son will be 3 months younger than though cutoff date, though that does make him 9 months younger than the average student in that grade, and since a lot of going to school is for the social experience, that could make things less pleasant, for sure. For a lot of reasons, this is probably a bad idea.
At first I thought this was stealing from taxpayers by using public school earlier, but it seems that since he still goes the same number of years, it isn't really stealing in the long run.
So what do people think of this? Bad idea jeans? I want to hear new identity stories.

Sounds like jailtime for you.. and a repeated grade for your kid.
