Bought some pizzas last week in an epic cram session while studying for tests. Total was like $13.50. Payed with a $20 and asked for $2 back. Pizza place is seriously less than a mile away from my place. I'm white, 22 and broke. My dad/grandpa always tip a bunch and I bussed tables when I was 16 for my first job so I never short people with tips and I think much much less of somebody if I find out that they don't tip.

EDIT: FFFUUUUUU Tapow for bringing back 2incher. GTFO 2incher you're a terrible poster.

This isn't F OOT. I'd probably pay him like $22 or something.

On another note. WTF is up with those stupid tip jars. Not once have I ever ever put money into them. When those are on the counter I'm the one that takes the food back to my table. I'm doing the job that I would normally tip somebody to do. So I keep the money that I would have been tipping as a tip to myself.

**** imo $22 was my plan. I give my change if < 50 cents at starbucks in the tip jar. Never more than that though. Pretty much same deal at chipotle except for the odd time they do a really good job in the 30 seconds i'm interacting with them.

I've always thought about doing this because like I really don't like carrying around the change, but I always thought it was sort of douchey because like who wants a whole bunch of change? I guess they could just exchange it at the register for bills later...

Yeah i doubt they take the change home. The store always needs cahnge so i'm sure they just sell it to them for bills during the count at the end of the shift.

BTW I read a thread on here awhile ago about a guy that wrote $0 for the tip when he ordered pizza online with his credit card. He gave the delivery guy a cash tip. Turns out the delivery guy pissed on his pizza and was super apologetic after he got the cash tip from the guy and ended up giving him like $20 or something. Just a word of warning to all those cheap pathetic losers out there that don't tip.

I give them $1 or $2. Growing up my family never did, in fact they never even knew they were "supposed" to.

When I was like 10 I was over at a friend's house and they had ordered a pizza and my friend's mom was like "Do we have a dollar to give the pizza man?" and they gave it to him.

Next time my family ordered pizza I brought it up and they were like "You're supposed to tip the pizza guy? Hmmm. Oh well guess we will" and from then on they always gave him $1.

I have stiffed delievery guys before though when they pull the "spend 5 minutes struggling to find change" routine.

The pizza is $16 and I gave you a $20, I'm not tipping you $4 on it.

I've spent a lot of years in the delivery business and I think you're right. Some guys will f*ck with your food because they LIKE you, let alone if you're rude and/or don't tip.

It seems that regular customers tip about 99% of the time, so there's usually nothing for them to worry about. Those who don't tip tend not to order regularly, and they can usually count on the driver having a bad memory.

I have a great memory myself, but have never added anything nasty to someone's food order. I think that's bad karma. I will, however, deliver a non-tipper's order last if I have multiple runs. Also, beware of leaving the tip line blank on a credit card slip. I know guys who automatically write in a $3 tip, figuring the customer will never check. Usually, they're right. And if the customer does complain, then it's the driver's word against the customer's word. Credit card fraud is a serious crime though, and I'd never take the chance.

When a customer tips in cash and signs the credit card slip, I ask them to write "CASH" on the tip line. It makes them feel more comfortable, and there's no question about what happened when I get back to the store. It's a good idea to do this wherever you go, in case you find someone added a tip on to your check without your permission. This happens quite a lot, and it's happened several times to me (I just pay cash for everything now).

I hate tipping. I just don't understand why there are minimum wage jobs that require employees to deal with customers all day long, but they don't get tips. Then you have other jobs where an employee deals with customers, makes minimum wage plus expects a tip.

Is the Pizza delivery guy working harder then the person taking orders at the front desk? The person taking orders is providing a service as well.

edit: I do tip though because I know gas is expensive.

I'm aware its different in the US, but in Canada they make minimum wage (around $10/hr), so with tips they have double the income or more.
Waitress actually makes good money, $25/hr easily and they don't report half of it on taxes.
