It would be tl/dr ldo but I'll try.

We met about 10 years ago, dated for 3, married for 5, seperated/divorced for the past 2. Throughout the entire relationship there was never any signs/symptoms of mental history but found out during the divorce that he had once been diagnosed bipolar yet failed to tell me or needed to take medication during the first 8 years.

So we break up/seperate at my request, he didn't want to but the marriage just wasn't what I wanted and wasn't going where I wanted it to go and I just wasn't happy. We remained friends though, even moving out together at the same time, sharing a moving truck, living about 1 mile from each other, etc.

Then he gets depressed, stops working. He was one of the best web site designers, making major bucks, but then just dropped all his clients, returning no phone calls, no emails, just major depression. I tried to help him and ended up paying his rent, car payment, all utilities, food, cigarettes, etc for about 7-8 months. Got tired of that and told him to snap out of it, get help etc. During this 7-8 months he took off at one point, but called me and came back in about 1 week and asked me to take him to the mental hospital. I did.

He got out and went to counseling, it really seemed to work for him, he started working again, even got a girlfriend and then BOOM

1. GF breaks up with him
2. Computer crashes
3. Check from client bounces

All in the same day. So he goes mental again and takes off. We (his best friend, me and his father) report him as missing, takes about 2 weeks, they find him at a rest area. While he was missing I had to personally move his house for him as he was being evicted for not paying rent. So I rented Uhaul.....

You know getting way too long, I'll summarize:

1. Never told me of past mental illness/history
2. Refused to get medical help or medication
3. I paid 7-8 months worth of his living expenses out of guilt (I freely admit this)
4. Had to report him as a missing person that was suicidal/homicidal three times.
5. Tried to help him by taking him to mental institution, they only kept him for 4 days
6. Had to pay out $1500 to move all his possessions out of his house back in Jan, took me until March to talk to him again.
7. Takes off again but this time leaves all his prized possessions at home (camera, guitar and carton of cigarettes so we assume that he took off to commit suicide.

and the worse of all:

8. His ex wife died of AIDS not cancer as he always told me and I didn't find out until this past year during him being missing and his father suddenly wanting to unload all his dark secrets.

So yeah, I'm a little bitter. I feel totally sorry for him and I truly hopes he gets the help he needs, but he just seems like a lost cause and I guess I have too many pent up feelings of betrayal due to nature of lies.

Calm down gf, you have no idea what you're talking about. He literally has/had 3 people that care for him (or used to until he kept using and abusing) and then he ****ed it all up.

Even his father won't help him out anymore. That left me, his ex wife, and his best friend who called me a month ago to call me a saint for putting up with his **** for 10 years.

Maybe I didn't understand it correctly. Are you saying HE has AIDS? I just assumed it was his wife and that they were careful about it or whatever. If he had it and didn't tell you then I completely echo your original sentiments.

No, his past wife died of AIDS and he told me she died of cancer. She caught AIDS during a surgical procedure in 1982 but they didn't diagnose it until 1993, she died in 1995. That's about 12 years of him having unprotected sex with his infected wife and not telling his new wife, me, at any point during relationship/marriage.

He refuses to get tested btw, so I have no idea if he has it or not.

I know, at this point, that I don't, but with false negative tests.....

Concrete Answer: No clue if he has it or not, he refuses to be tested since I found out. However, I'm clean afaik and test every 6 months.

He told me he had been tested before he met me, several times, and was always negative, but I don't know if I believe that. That he was tested, period.
