What is blousing your pants? I understand tucking them in but i thought that was mainly for military people. Apparently i'm totally wrong. Anyone care to elaborate what blousing is? At first i thought this thread was talking about a blouse (like a shirt women wear). I'm confused.

Instead or all the way in and your pants being straight down you pull them out slight around the top or the boot for a small "puff"of material..ir what looks like the puff of a womans blouse ( though there are mens blouses too)

you take these rubber straps like bungee cords put around your calf above the boot. you then roll your pants legs of your bdus under the strap so that the legs stop at the top of the boot. it looks way better than tucking (tucking is illegal in some branches) it is also more comfortable. and sgtrj can help with next part cause its been forever but i also think there is an advantage in a NBC environment.

I don't know if there's any practical advantages to either approach, from my experience it was strictly as aesthetics thing, which one you thought looked better or more bad ass. Some of the drill sergeants bloused, some didn't, for example, at least in my unit.

Back in the day my understanding is that blousing your boots was strictly for special forces, so it may have evolved as being the "cool" look from there. I always bloused my pant legs, although I didn't use the cords or straps (tried them, didn't like them). I got the same results by just buying pants that had enough length so that I could tuck the ends way down, then partially pull the material back out again and they looked fine.

when i was in it was against regulations to tuck in any way (usaf) so we had to use straps starting in basic.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure I saw AF personally with their pants tucked in when I worked on an AFB a few years ago, but IDK. Maybe local regs differ?

At any rate in the Army it was pretty much however you wanted to do it, tuck or blouse, straps or no.

oh and sgtrj, like i said i cant remember but in nbc class i could've sworn they had us let out bdu pants all the way down the outside of our boots before we put on the other pants.
but it was only 1 day of training and i cant remember.

SGT is correct, during WWII blousing was only done by paratroopers, then went on to be adopted by Special Forces during Vietnam. At basic (Army) our drill Sgts didn't allow us to blouse, after basic when I went to Airborne school we were allowed, and we all did cause it looks badass compared to straight in the boot.

Blousing looks better that is for sure. Tucking is easier to do.

During stx it helps keep out snow and rocks but with knee pads it always untucks and ****s up my laces. Blousing doesn't do this but on occasion **** gets in my boot.

Weighing pros and cons they kinda seem even. Btw I dont care about looks just tactical use.
