NLHE has LESS variance than LHE? NLHE has LESS variance than LHE?

I am a pretty decent limit player with almost no experience (and not a lot of interest) in NL. And I suppose I could easily be wrong but NL having less variance is so counterintuitive, I could scarcely believe what I was reading.

I guess in a way it might be difficult to stack them up for comparison but I'm sure smarter people than me have given it a go.

Can someone either confirm or refute this and then explain why, in terms a dummy like me can understand.

IMHO It's a matter of semantics on whether people mean statisical variance, risk of ruin, downswings, or whatever. In any one hand you can lose more Big Bets in NL than LH which makes variance seem higher, but a good player is likely to have a bigger skill edge over foes in NL than in LE and thus may have less less risk of ruin (loss of whole bankroll) than in LE in the long run.

and search titles for "variance"

The question in this title is terrible... I will save this thread...

How can I beat my degen friends using movez in a LHE game that switches to NLH on the turn/river in heads up pots?

I have heard that variance in NL is less than in L. My guess is that in limit more often money is put in the pot playing to "longshots" (i.e., draws). Putting money in the pot on a 5:1 is going to generate more variance than when you put money in on a 2:1.
