Since I've never done one of these before, can anyone give me a quick rundown of some common "extra" roles that pop up in mish-mash games? I've played in real life games with a Doctor/Angel, and I've read about the Vigilante, but what other ones are there?

Also, I've only seen a couple of episodes of Prison Break. It seems like LuckayLuck is at least somewhat familiar with the show, but who else has seen it? I think it'll be really helpful to have a couple of people to consult if we need knowledge of potential role mechanics etc.

I don't feel comfortable saying Maruchan is a villager purely for this opening post. Asking questions like these in the thread rather than a wolf chat is precisely the kind of thing I would do to get precisely this kind of reaction if I was new to this site and wasn't in fact a villager.

I was fairly sure I had seen this kind of light clear before in other threads so I went and did a search of some old games with the words 'ask' 'wolf' 'chat'. The search didn't return results from any games I've actually read so I'd guess there are other combos of terms to try. However here are some previous examples it did come back with:

This was Diablo. Sooted was a villa and clown an (evil?) neutral

HEAT. mrsj was villa and lbr was a wolf

HEAT again. aces/jjhender/pawntificator were all villas

LOST. birdman was a wolf, housenuts a (good?) neutral

LOST again. aao (good?) neutral, drubell a villa

Transformers. aao/erx were both villas

Conclusion

I don't feel content to award any villa points to Maruchan for his first post, nor do I have a view either way on bsballs response. A very brief search on previous games (with a low sample size) supports this view.

Actually when I look closer at the specific questions being asked I don't have a lot of love for this part.

Hmmm, can't help but notice similarities between Maruchan's d1 posting in his 2nd ever long game/ 1st ever mish-mash:

I didnt want to immediately clear people just for asking questions in thread that 'could have been asked in wolf chat'

I wanted to see if it was a genuine villa tell, and also whether people who drew attention to it in the past as though it were a genuine tell were more likely to be a certain role

So I reviewed old games to see what past examples showed us and concluded from the sample i found that it didn't really show anything useful to inform my view.

Assumptions:
1. noob wolves usually ask in wolfchat what they should do to sound villagery.
2. noob wolves also ask in wolfchat game mechanic type questions.
3. most experienced wolves (such as bsball), if they were a wolf with said noob, I think they would tell the noob to post random noob stuff like asking that mechanics question in thread. They wouldn't give much specific advice because noobs following instructions are easier to read than noobs acting on their own.

Maru wolf / bsball wolf: even if bsball would tell a noob wolf to act nooby in thread, he probably wouldn't be the one to respond to him. So I think w/w is unlikely.

Maru Villa / BsBall Wolf: I think this is entirely possible. bsball has been around enough to know that noob wolfs get instructed to act nooby in thread, so his assigning villager points strikes me as something he would do as a wolf.

Maru Wolf / bsball villa: I think its unlikely that bsball villa falls into the noob wolf tarp.

Maru villa / bsball villa: just an innocent exchange that we are reading way too much into. entirely possible and likely.

Cliffs:
-Maru lean villa (though not for his post, his villa points come from bsball's interaction with it and my perception of bsball).
-bsball leans slight wolf

my thoughts on some things:

rollwave is a villager
essedarius is a villager
bigger might be a villager
dmk might be a villager
xxsooted might be a villager
derwipok may or may not be a villager
iflat may or may not be a villager
darthrob may or may not be a villager
legend might not be a villager

that is way too much focus on bsball when other people have called maru a villager for similar/other/whatever reasons. will you be providing a similar analysis for each of them?

not unless you point out something specific you want me to address. My comments weren't as much a response to bsball's or maruchan's post, as darthrob's analysis of the interaction.

I commented on this one in particular because I like Darthrob's long analysis, but I think his analysis was with blinders set to analyze maruchan. However, I think that the exchange actually gives more information about bsball's role, not maruchan's, so I commented to provide a supplemental analysis - but with focus on bsball instead.
