speaking of 80's vibes with slightly generic lyrics, by the way, that song made me think of this song, which just hits me right in the nostalgia:

i know most of you are too young for that, but oh man, there's something about it

What is the song of hers you have in several playlists? Scar?
Set Me On Fire, actually -- I'm not sure where I came across it

and sorry for the Australian fakeout

listening to Scar now, and I'm really digging it

like with Kasey Chambers, I very much appreciate how she doesn't hide her accent

I didn't realize at the time that this was a cover. Later, I remembered. I think that this is catchier, and (hopefully) fresher, and more indie than punk. Maybe. I guess not.

I considered submitting Scar, but I like Steer more. I guess I chose poorly?

If you're digging Scar, you should probably check out The Special Two.

I considered this song for the category.

for whatever reason, this song just triggers super-strong associations for me with a time in my life where i was trawling The Hype Machine for free mp3s and burning mix CD after mix CD

like it would not be out of place in my heavy rotation circa 2006 (even though this song apparently came out in 1999? seems ahead of its time)

(this is the point where i would link to "I Hope This Makes It Easier For You" by Actionslacks, but they are apparently not available on YouTube in Ecuador and I'm too lazy to see if my VPN still works)

anyway, strange phrasings and cadence, but the chorus really kicks things up a notch and insinuates itself into your brain

for this particular category, I think Steer scores better than Scar

I had it near-podium for awhile, my rankings from 7th to 3rd were pretty fluid

I like it, but I prefer being able to understand the lyrics; I like the Lit song more

Ok, good to know.

Would've been super annoying to pick the right artist, but the wrong song.

by the way, eyebooger, regardless of how you do in this category, i'm pretty sure you've got this thing on lockdown

i make consistently bad choices in life, of which this walrus is but one representative if minor example

How is it that I do not remember this song? It hits right in my wheelhouse.

I can't decide if I like the voice -- I think I do? but I find the lyrics grating, which makes me feel old slash uncool, but then I'm pretty sure I ranked some Icelandic song about vibrators or something quite high in one of my previous walruses, so it's not the subject matter that bugs me, idk.

it actually has a chorus and the chorus is actually reasonably catchy...i just don't like the song much

this is a song that sounds like songs that i like and is also, independently, a song i like

i dig the 50's girl group thing a lot, and the guitars are cool. simple, clean, hooky; pretty much a lay-up for the person who submitted it. that being said, it's no Alex Lahey, and no Wrecking Ball

there were two songs in this walrus that i enjoyed at first but then found myself actively disliking upon repeated listens. this was one of them.

i don't know why - i don't know why! the way the lyrics link to each other makes the whole thing feel really oppressive and claustrophobic when combined with the voice and the music

is that stupid? probably! but for whatever reason, it evokes something visceral that i do not want in my ears

shrug emoji? many people like this song; it's probably objectively well-crafted

the funny thing is that i'm not even sure the chorus of this song is that catchy, or if there actually, um, is a chorus

but that bass line is great, and i really like the phrasing and emotion of the vocals; it feels very much its own thing and of the moment, whatever that means, and it grabs me

this is another one where i can recognize that many people probably enjoy listening to it, but for me, personally, it's a little like biting tin foil

i don't like his whole...thing at all

not for me

it was actively unpleasant for me to play the song again to do this writeup

sorry

so, in 1st place

this is not a dig at this submission AT ALL -- but I feel like I should have had 17 songs that did what this does, because it doesn't seem that hard there's a world in which this song ranks 8th because all the rest are even better, but it does what it does very well

very catchy chorus, the whole thing is very bouncy and jaunty and joyful, and it's enjoyable to listen to

i know nothing about the band, and i have no idea what the song is about, but it's a grooving tune

well done

My 2nd through 4th game is strong.

Mix in too many misses, though.

Glad you liked it Gad, even if I forgot to provide a song with a chorus
