anything that does not contain 3s, 4s and 5s is optimal.

For the top score 79350 you need 23x6s and 22x (1s and 2s), so I´d say 66611, 66622, 66612 are optimal.

I think it's easier to arrange 2s than 1s, so I'd say 66622

For the higher levels of advanced mode I suspect it's more like 62221 (because more abilities turn things into 6s than into 2s).

i think the interesting question is not whether there are times that you should/wish you had gone with a 3 chain, because clearly there are, it's more how many 3s you need to roll, how early, to commit yourself to going with 3s, and how late you try to delay the commitment to what the 3rd chain is going to be (and if you ever change horses midstream).

well that's the other thing. I think the only real point to starting to build three chains is to give you some option as to which two are going to be the 2 snakes. So perhaps there's some alternate strategy that looks like ass a lot of the time, but retains the option to make 2 chains out of any of the 4 choices a little longer.

Yeah true, I realize its a bit different for normal mode, I think a third chain is probably necessary when you don't get to manipulate the rolls so much.

I'm playing normal now, its a lot funner than I remember!
