Yeah, I need to work on that too. In one recent game, I scouted, found an early twilight council, and just thought I was going to face blink stalkers. That the opponent could be going for DTs never occurred to me until the DTs hit my detection-less base.

No. The last thing we need is more mutaling players.

watching a couple replays I can see actually multi-tasking is my biggest problem at the moment, mechanically speaking. How the hell do you (for example) stutter step micro marines or a hellion while doing anything else?

also MLG colombus is starting. HD stream is free today. yum yum majorleaguegaming.com

You can still build units by pressing something like "3 s" "1 a" but you can't look anywhere else on the map obv.

you can also change rally points; basically you can use your keyboard.

I assume people dont stutter step micro and do much of anything else at the same exact time though.

yeah I always use hotkeys for everything but getting the 4aa5s6d (or whatever) in is like wawaweewa when you're trying to run away from zealots or something

There's a custom map to build up your multitasking skills. It's called multitasking trainer. Search for it from within the game.

In one part of the game you're building a force. If you get over 500 minerals, you die. At the same time, in another part of the map, you have a probe being chased by a zealot. The entire time you're building a force, you have to keep your probe alive. If you're probe dies 5 times, the game is over and you fail.

So you have to hotkey the chased probe and check on him every couple of seconds or so to give him another place to go. At the same time, you're using your hatchery hotkey and building drones and zerglings (or whatever race you are), because you have to kill the enemy force within 10 minutes.

My problem is that, after some practice, I was able to beat multiasking trainer without losing a probe. But carrying that over into my normal games is another question altogether.

You don't need to build your multitasking skills, you just need to know what to do in situations.

To get to plat you just need to know which buildings to make and when to make them. I'd guess that 90% of the time you notice your resources pile up or you find yourself out of gas but rolling in minerals or the other way around you simply didn't get what you can support at the appropriate time, or know when to expand , etc.

Your "multitasking" improves a ton when you actually know what to do instead of sitting there thinking how to respond.

Don't use multitask trainer. Use Macro or Die. You can be a pretty good player (diamond level) if you just have more stuff. If you have more stuff, microing doesn't matter much.

One suggestion to see how "it's" done is watch some of the feature stream on TeamLiquid and watch what they do from their perspective. It'll give you a lot of insight to their limitations.

I think I'm gonna check out MLG in Columbus Sunday.

I'll let you all know how it is.

Never been to a video game competition.

The way to build stuff while you're stutter-stepping marines is to stop stutter-stepping your marines and build stuff.

i've been using macro or die

love that map, although the xelnaga version crashes SC2 on my machine half the time when it loads
