aaaaaye nice clue, I was starting to get hopeful when no one knew it(I didn't really know it either, familiar with Debussy's "Prelude to an Afternoon of a Faun" so knew it was some mythological creature thing) but you picked the 2 words I liked for it and was a great clue

So yeah, the main character in Drumline is from NY. I didn't actually expect anybody to know that, but I thought you might be able to logic it out from the words on the list. Also "New York Drumline" sounds like it could be a thing. I knew it was a gamble, but we had to win in 3 and I couldn't really find a good way to link NY with anything. You ended up getting there, but then sort of talked yourself into having spursed something anyway.

I thought a lot about the cigarette clue. Went through a TON of potential words, including the stuff you mentioned, but I was finding myself running into pretty big blockers no matter what I came up with. I actually thought that smoking/vaping hit whistle harder than cigarette did because that invokes the image of *blowing* smoke even more, and vapes are more whistle-like than cigarettes. I also thought that smoking could hit pig, and if I clued vaping, you might even avoid poison because then you'd be wondering why I clued that specifically over something like smoking/cigarette/etc. Maybe I was wrong in thinking that, but that's why I ended up settling on cigarette being the best clue in that spot.

Admittedly, I did not really see beer as much of a blocker either. I mean, if steam is a 2-step connection (I don't even think it is fwiw), then surely beer has to be at least 4 steps, no? I don't really understand guessing that or whistle over steam tbh, but I guess that's on me.

Yeah, don't think botox hits steam at all. I had a bunch of directions I considered like respirator/meth/sarin/mace, but I just kept running into blockers.

If I could do it over again, I would probably clue meth. Was worried about court being said, but maybe that was our best chance in hindsight.

Yeah, I highly doubt there are any totally clean clues for that word combo on that board. For a while it was looking like blues were gonna guess steam for us, which would've made things much easier. Bastards.
