I agree with inD

outing the word should be strenuously avoided, because even if it avoids a mislynch, it guarantees 10 points to the chameleon

however, the person in the hot seat should do their very best to communicate that they know the word in a way that villagers will catch onto but not the chameleon imo, if it's possible

I actually think that if we have all decided on 1 person to vote on, then it's really close as to if we should let them guess or not and let it sway our votes.
And mostly hinges on how strong we think our connections are.
The stronger we think our connections are, the less that we should allow them to 'out' the word as they are more likely to steer us in the wrong direction.
However, if we all have weak links and the word should be pretty obfuscated, then we should let them 'out' the word pretty much always as there should be very few false positives.

i don't know the right answer to the outing question, I guess

i guess i do think that research should be disallowed, now that i consider it

i say that because i'm tempted just to ask inD to tell us who the **** Douglas is and hope, if inD is villa, that the connection between Douglas and the word is not so clear as to give the answer to xander

but if xander can research in that scenario, then it doesn't matter, assuming there's some connection to be found

but the entire point of the softing strat is you don't have to mitigate anything. the whole village pushes for 25

it seems like there's at least one vote locked in on me already, anyway, so that's losing some optimality
