I think I made a bad ruling because it was biased by the results (plus I was driving).

Buuuuuuuut, it's the ruling, so it stands.

I have no opinion on the ruling since to me it's all random. But I think in a future state, something along the lines of
"You have xx minutes to vote. No changing. No talking. Go." could be ok

Edit: If you even want to allow more time. I think it's also fair to just call it.

we have 24 hours from the time the discussion starts which is pretty much what you're outlining here.

I don't think that JM3 should have changed them, but he did so I tried to use it to my advantage as best I could

you've either got to do what JM3 did in that situation or stick with only 2 votes counting.

When eb rushed his vote and you get 10 minutes to think about it then it's only fair he gets to change it and when he gets to change it then it's only fair that I get to change it which put us in the situation that we're in

If neither vote was for the chameleon, I would have said the chameleon escaped. Because I thought a 3 person tiebreaker was an ugly mechanic, I extended the time. Therefore I think it's a poor ruling.

It ended up with Carl, eb & xb voting for Eric & irtm voting for eb.

Eric never voted (I did PM him when I extended the deadline).

Eb was the chameleon & escaped for 20 points. I'm also going to give 5 each to xander & irtm for voting for him at different times.

The series has finally ENDED.

When I designed the rules for forum play, my goal was basically exactly this.

I just found this "eod" kind of exciting.

Wouldn't mind trying ww style as a variant at some point.

I think i the future I'd do it different. More like I laid out. but I support the ruling as called. You made a choice at the time and it was perfectly defendable.
