If it is a voice over narrator - its in self reflective mode.

And this self reflection is on a woman - that has changed in a disappointing way for the narrator.

I realize now

It is definitely a narrator positioned in the future from the action - a recollection.

So now he has temporal distance he can see now what he didnt then.

So movies with voice over narrator about a man thinking upon an idealised woman that he realises now is not the ideal

My guess is that it is an early serial killer type or murder mystery novel

The narrator is a male, down and out outsider who hates women.

My guess is its prolly pre -reagan - as noone talks of unions in movies past the 1990s
or it is set in the union era

Could be a Raymond Chandler movie - hard boiled detective or something like that.
