Robots have destroyed manufacturing jobs. It's blurred with offshoring, but it's still a thing that's happened, not going to happen. Maybe it just didn't impact you and your family/friends.

Computers have also massively changed low level white collar jobs - we can do far more with far fewer people. To some extent we've done more as a result, but also we've invented useless audit related tasks that do nothing much beyond keeping middle class people employed. Look up David graebner's bull**** jobs on this .

What is a secretary?

Got a free dinner from Wegmans and southern tier brewing company for being a top craft brew drinker in my area. Food was awesome, got to taste six different types of beer and they gave me a growler of free beer at the end as well.

Which I think is great long term for an expanding economy. And good for people too.

But extremely bad for secretaries. I'm fine with the collatoral damage.

i meant your claim about half the jobs which was silly

obviously some people lose jobs during progress

they are selfish like everyone else and want to protect themselves to hinder progress

Improving the efficiency of the economy is a good thing, subject to certain questions of sustainability etc, the question is who reaps the rewards and what you do with the losers.

But also, the relation between happiness and economic growth is pretty weak, so there's also the question of what the ultimate goal of the economy is.

Supposedly the next waves of jobs that robots are going to eliminate is much less bottom up, and lots of surprising jobs (e.g. journalist) are liable to be automatable in the near future.

I always assumed yoga instructors are eyeball popping amazing in bed.

Sure, but afaik you live in some exurban bubble which in no way resembles London, or any other city with a large taxi industry, where routing is much more involved than merely choosing which of a couple of arterial roads to take. It's really helpful when a driver knows which roads have stoplights, which ones don't, and how they are synchronized, etc. Have you ever been in a taxi that's caught in congested traffic and suddenly they just pull onto an empty side street and just start whipping around seemingly at random before rejoining the same street up ahead of all of the cars that you had been stuck behind? Good luck getting that to happen with a driver who needs the GPS just to figure out where your destination is.

Yeah they did a bit on a journalist vs a computer and the computer did just as well

Not like journalists report news anyway nowadays

Teachers seem pretty easy to replace for the most part. You'd need a few but could reduce a lot of them. Unions probably get in the way

I sometimes think about becoming a physical trainer. Has to be a plus ev job

I think I would rather be a tax preparer with a path to CPA than a US Mail employee.

I think that one has to be .999

Online courses are crushing the college scene! (Along with high schools continuously expanding the AP program - It is not far off where EVERY high school class will be an AP test course)

In my gym, I think the trainers spend 1/2 their time hitting on the hot clients.

That was part of the plus ev!!!
