The state mental hospital used to be in Nevada, MO. I've been there, the town not the hospital.

Cairo, IL is pronounced "Kay-ro" for some reason. I can only imagine the reason is because it's basically on the IL/MO border.

I thought it was because Monsanto bought the town and made sure the name is pronounced the same as their finest product, Karo syrup.

My mom would use Karo Syrup to make peanut brittle and other candy every Christmas. It's freaky how it's clear, goes good on waffles too.

We not only had lynchings in the city square of Springfield, Wild Bill Hickok also shot and killed a man there.

All the blacks left southwest Missouri after the 1906 lynchings, in which both men were burned after being hanged.
