I forget the link to woody Allen, but I've read the essay, and yet not Tolstoy (it's subject) . I'm thinking of reading W&P next, coincidentally

Right, I think Berlin said Tolstoy was a hedgehog and Shakespeare was a fox.

edit: it's more complicated than that looking it up. Wiki: "He postulates, rather, that while Tolstoy's talents are those of a fox, his beliefs are that one ought to be a hedgehog, and thus Tolstoy's own voluminous assessments of his own work are misleading."

Plato vs. Aristotle seems like the prototypical example of hedgehog and fox, to me at least.

2nd edit: I haven't read the essay and know of it mainly through Husbands and Wives.

Holy crap, sending a <1 ounce letter via FedEx overnight costs $33! Kind of absurd that I've gotten 50 lb items via Amazon shipped for free via FedEx, but I have to pay $33 for a simple letter.
