I think he's top 5 for most people. The thing is his posts are full of truth and wisdom, but they're rarely exciting.

i passed the first two exams but ultimately decided not to pursue it.

ah I see. Thanks regardless. Seems like a pretty intense career with all the studying that is recommended. Hoping I can stick with it.

I recently read the entire youtalkfunny thread there. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/85...eight-1215160/

I found it fascinating. The nominal purpose of the thread is to discuss strategy for ytf to lose weight and track his progress. Most of the posters have different agendas though, including ytf.

How much truth can he handle right now? How much of a change can he make right now? For a particular strategy, what is the likely outcome?

He was starting at 380 pounds. His daily intake to maintain that weight was A LOT of calories. But, being so far from normal weight makes the psychology of it really tough. I am curious to see how it ends.

ya, i am not a studious person. the first two exams were relatively easy for me because i doubled majored in finance and math so i had learned most of the content.

my plan was to look for a job after the second exam (and i did). when i started looking for jobs i decided i had really only pursued it because i liked the idea of taking tests instead of going to grad school but then i questioned whether that was a good way to pick a career. i ended up not applying to any actuarial jobs or signing up for the third exam, not really sure why. i'm weird.

I'm reading Stephen King's On Writing which I got for Christmas. It's pretty good so far and I recommend it to anyone who writes or wants to write.

in the part I just finished, he described one of his early jobs where he was paid half a cent per word

Writing well is hard work. I leave it to amplify

Yeah I'm someone who doesn't study either... I just like math and finance. Definitely don't want to do grad school since I'm in year 6 of undergrad (changed majors twice) and I am a very good test-taker. The worst that can happen is I'll get a degree in math. If I pass some exams but don't ultimately end up as an actuary they still look nice on a resume.

meh. maybe it's not the best idea. men lose weight way differently than women so their advice may not even apply. i just wanted to log it & have people pop in occasionally.

i won't lift for a while, actually. i'm concerned with eating better & lots of cardio right away.

This will get your thread off the ground nicely.

swimming is my personal favourite form of exercise. I don't really understand the concept of a gym, it seems like there would be no worse place

John Berardi has been running some informal trials with intermittent fasting and finding that while around 75% of men tend to do well with it, only around 25% of women do. This is likely to be partially physical (women have wicked complex hormone **** going on) and partially mental (women may respond better to "treats" throughout the day), but it does demonstrate (in a pseudosciency way) that what you say is true on more than just a social level.

FYI - I kicked ass today. I did about 10 minutes of circuit-like junk (Burpees, jump squats, plank jumps, etc.), then I ran a not-so quick mile. I would have done more but i had places to go. Walked 1.2 miles to/from school for one kid and the same 1.2 for the other just now.

I've only taken in 550 cals and burned about 485 off so far today.

But then dinner is always bad and my downfall is bad snacks all night bc I can't get tired/fall asleep before 11pm.

If I can do better in the evening, this will go somewhere.
